Carl Leon Sweat, age 73, passed away peacefully at Tennova Residential Hospice on January 28, 2017. He served six years in the United States Army. Carl retired from Stowers Machinery Corporation after 33 years of service. Carl spent his retirement years serving others by delivering mobile meals and volunteering his skills as a "handyman" to his church and any neighbor or friend who needed help. Carl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Preceded in death by his parents Claude R Sweat and Anna Murriel (Bridges) Sweat, and his step mother Lillian Deolis (Blair) Sweat. Survived by his wife of 49 years Emily Sue (French)Sweat, son William Scott Sweat, daughter Rebecca Suzanne Wortham and grandsons Tyler and Joel. Son-in-law David Wortham and future daughter-in-law Carole Adams. Sisters in law, Ann Pepper and Becky Brewer. Special friends Bill and Pat Wortham. Several special cousins including J D Sweat who was like a brother and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Tuesday with the funeral service to follow at the Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive. Rev. Bryan Wright will officiate.
