George Daniel “Danny” Day, born October 13, 1943 to Vondue and Jean (Warwick) Day, passed from this life on December 27, 2016 after a brief illness. A life-long resident of Knoxville, Danny was a 1961 graduate of Knoxville Central High School, where he was a proud bandsman and played coronet. As a member of Beaverbrook Country Club, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed entertaining friends and family both at the club and at home – in fact, he made the best steak this side of the Mason Dixon Line! He also was an enthusiastic gardener, supplying vast amounts of wonderful vegetables to everyone he knew every spring and summer. Danny’s skill in woodworking ranged from the artistic to carpentry. He loved animals and his pets, and especially his dog, Bandit. Danny was active as an insurance agent at the time of his death, and made it the focus of his work to personally help people with the difficult choices in coverage today that were the best for them. He is survived by Barbara Jean Day, his wife of 54 years; son, Dr. Danny Day (Mary Lawson) and grandchildren; Sam, Richard “T” and Della of Jackson, TN; daughter, Cindy Day of Knoxville; sister, Regena Day Chapman (Mike) and niece and nephew, Chris Chapman and Lorie Chapman of Memphis. The family requests that any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the name of Isaac Day, the deceased grandson of Danny.
