

Mulryan, Hugh Francis, age 76, of Heiskell, TN, passed away at home July 9, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He faced many health issues after having stomach cancer in 1996, but through it all never lost his sunny disposition and great sense of humor. Hugh was born on July 27, 1935 in Timmins, Ontario, the oldest child of Hugh and Mary Mulryan. He was a former professional baseball player, hockey player and was a referee in the old Eastern Hockey League in the 60’s. He was very proud of his Irish and Canadian heritage, and particularly enjoyed a trip to Ireland in 2003 to visit the area his dad was born and raised. He became a U.S. Citizen in 2006. He was a co-founder of the Time-Out Deli’s and later of Mulryan’s Deli on the Market Mall. He was a wonderful person, very loving, kind, thoughtful and considerate, cooking and taking food to needy folks, and many times buying groceries for neighbors in need. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Timmins, Ontario and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Norris, TN. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy and Patrick; sister, Kathy.
He is survived by wife of 42 years, Eula Jean Mulryan; sons, Hal (Jan) and Mark of Hamilton, Ontario, Mike, Heiskell, TN, Matt, Spring City, TN; daughters, Robin Harber and Kim (John) Helli of Hamilton, Ontario; grandchildren, Jill, Jodi, Jennifer, Heather, Lindsay, Brooke and Finn, all of Ontario; Sara, Michael, Ian and Mason of Knoxville; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Burke of Trenton, Ontario; sister-in-law, Barbara (Buck) Langlois, Jonesboro, AR; sister-in-law, Midge Stewart, Knoxville; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous good friends. He will be greatly missed, particularly by his buddies at Lakeside Marina in Spring City. Many thanks to Dr. Gerald Mancebo and his nurse Janice for their many years of care to Hugh, and to surgeon Dr. Kevin Zirkle for giving him an extra 16 years; also, the wonderful folks at Halls Tennova Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm Thursday July 12 at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel with the celebration of life to follow with his nephew, Rev. Joel Marshall and Father Bill Gahagan officiating. Interment will follow in Lynnhurst Cemetery.
