

James "Jim" Walter Ausmus, age 86, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 13, 2023. He was a longtime member of Second United Methodist Church. Jim and his beloved wife, Marjorie, served as youth counselors at SUMC. Jim worked as a Finance Manager with Rodgers Cadillac before going to work with Jim and Joe Clayton in management at Clayton Motors and Clayton Mobile Homes in 1969. Jim opened the Clayton Sales Center in Greeneville, TN in 1973 and enjoyed his 40 plus year career with the Clayton Homes "Family" until his retirement.
In his early years, Jim built his own drag race cars and raced them, winning many races. He was a member of the Hillbillies Car Club. Jim began flying private planes in 1969 and continued flying for business and pleasure until he was 83 years old. Over the years, he owned six different airplanes and enjoyed all things aviation. Jim was a member of AOPA. Flying and traveling were his passions. Jim flew all over the U.S., Canada and the Bahamas.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marjorie S. Ausmus. They were happily married for 49 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Conley C. and Esther Ausmus. He is survived by daughters, Jimmie Sue Ausmus and Janet Ausmus (Rick) Williams; granddaughter, Jeanette (Logan) Williams; girlfriend, Ann Mynatt, and extended family.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Fred Hurst, his nurses and staff at Summit Medical; Dr. Mitchell Martin, the nurses and staff at TN Cancer Specialists; Dr. Meade Edmunds of Edmunds Gastroenterology; Nurse Shaunda, Nurse Mike, Social Worker, Renee, the other nurses and staff at Amedisys Hospice of Knoxville.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, July 18th from 5-7pm at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home with funeral service at 7pm with Rev. Charla Sherbakoff officiating. Graveside service will be 11am on Wednesday, July 19th at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
Jim loved life and lived each day to its fullest. He will be greatly missed.
