

Sammy (Sam) David Lane, 93, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving Dad and Papaw and will be missed by his family and many friends. He was a longstanding member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.
Sam served his country in the Army in CO “G” 394th Infantry in World War II. He worked and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratories X-10.
He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family especially with the Big Orange Trailblazers a camping club he helped to establish. He and his wife, Ruth, enjoyed square dancing for many years with KSDA at the Jessamine Center.
Sam was a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 102, Knoxville and UA Local Union 718.
He is preceded by his wife Ruth Edna Cruze Lane and they will celebrate in heaven 71 years of marriage on Sunday January 28th. Parents Melvin and Myrtle Lane; brothers Bill, Gene, Claude and Cecil; sisters Margaret Hammon and Eva Clevenger. Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Clifford (Geneva) Cruze.
Sam is survived by daughters Rebecca (Larry) Shepherd, Kathy (Howard) Marshall, Lisa (Rick) Crigger and Sammie (Bob) Vaden.
Granddaughters Cristol (Duane) Kapp. Laura (Brian) Carl, Beverly Marshall, Amanda Marshall and Jessica Marshall. Grandsons Justin (Mariana) Shepherd, Brant Shepherd, James (Kris) Marshall and Jason Crigger and Spencer Crigger. He had 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; sister, Martha Lane Wilson; a very special friend Margie Byrd.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care and Professional Case Management for their care in Sam’s last days especially Nurse Shelley Stooksbury. Friends may call at their convenience until the Celebration of Life service at 2:30 pm Sunday in the chapel of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive. Interment will follow in Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev. Todd Stinnett officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Knoxville, and St. Judes Hospital, Memphis, to honor his love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
