Timothy Lynn Monroe, age 59, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Tim Monroe was born the fourth of seven children in Knoxville, Tennessee. Although he wasn’t born playing the drums, it was always on his mind. Just before Tim's 10th birthday his parents bought him his very first drum kit, something that is very brave to gift to a child. From there, he spent years playing in bands including but not limited to, Second Generation, Rough Justice, Hanover Fist, Exit 407, Nailed, and Guy Smiley. Most of the people in the music scene will tell you Tim was the best of the best and the guy you wanted drumming in your band. He was not driven by ego, though. Tim’s passion for music was purely out of the love of playing and creating. He also spent many years playing alongside his father, Jack Monroe, from whom he received his musical blood. Tim also passed down his musical talent to his daughter, Leah; his nephew, Justin, and whomever else was lucky enough to learn from him.
Tim always had a curiosity for life and what it all meant. Always willing to dive deep and discuss topics of religion, politics, and everything in between. He was known for making you feel heard and understood. Tim had a magnetic personality that you couldn’t help but love. You never had to worry about a boring conversation or running out of things to talk about with him.
Tim also worked at Jack’s Breeze Thru Market, a community staple, in Lonsdale TN alongside his parents, siblings, and other family members and friends for many years. He will be missed by many and never be forgotten.
Tim was preceded in death by parents, Jack and Betty Monroe; brother-in-law, Steve Wolfe. He was survived by daughter, Leah Monroe and her mother, Michelle Monroe; siblings, Jackie (Cindy) Monroe, Valerie Wolfe, Greg Monroe, Darryl (Tina) Monroe, Eric (Angie) Monroe, April Monroe; a multitude of nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephew.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28th from 3-5pm with Celebration of Life following at 5pm. Graveside service will take place Monday, June 30th at 1pm at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
