

Preceded in death by parents, Andrew and Ada Churchill McClain; wives, Nancy Hansard McClain and Florence Dotson McClain.
Bill graduated from Knoxville High School in 1942.
He was a Navy veteran in WWII serving on the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Tabberer which sailed on the Pacific during the Halsey’s Typhoon 1944. He along with his shipmates were responsible for saving many lives.
Bill was the owner and operator of Knoxville Generator Company for over 50 years. He was known for never turning anyone in need away.
He was a generous and gentle soul who lived his life serving others, always with love and a smile.
Bill was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison.
Survived by wife, Ann Maxwell McClain of Madison, TN; niece Mary Alice (Bill) Bozeman and children Gina (Greg) Whitmore and daughter Reagan, Michael (Emily) Bozeman and children Andrew and Charlie, Chip (Carrie) Bozeman; stepdaughters Rosemary (Bill) Lovelace and children Lauran and Daniel, Sally Maxwell; stepsons Dr. Robert (Carolyn) Dotson and children Nathaniel and Rebekah, Richard (Amanda) Dotson and children Jonathan and Chris (Maria) and son Alexander, Phil (Brandy) Maxwell, Brad (Mary) Maxwell; nieces Peggy (Gene) Strain and Sally (David) Twitchell, Ann Finucane, nephews Jackie (Margurite) Koontz, Danny Stearns and many other special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel on Monday the 24th from 1:30-3:30 pm with a graveside service following at 3:30 pm with Dr. David Eubanks officiating. Friends may leave their condolences at www.lynnhurstchapel.com
