

Cole Jay Nixon was born March 4, 1941, in Kansas City, MO to Arlie James Nixon & Wylie ‘Billie’ Elizabeth Jones Nixon. Cole first attended school at rural Fountain School in Clinton county, then Cameron R1 schools and graduated from Cameron High School. Cole joined the Army, Oct 6, 1959 and his last assignment was to NIKE antiaircraft artillery where he was stationed with Battery A, 3rd Missile Btn, 5th Arty, Lincoln, MA. He served until Oct 5, 1962. In 1960, Cole married his high school sweetheart Janet Sue Creason. To that union, Krista Kathleen Nixon was born in Cushing, OK. It was while in Oklahoma that Cole learned to fly. They moved back to the Kansas City area in 1967 and he and Janet divorced later the next year. Cole moved back to Stillwater, OK in 1969 and attended Oklahoma State University. He graduated from OSU in 1973 with a degree in Aeronautical Technology and in 1974 with a masters in Education. He then remained at OSU as an instructor in the engineering program for five years. While teaching at the university in Stillwater, Cole found his second sweetheart Linda Jo Marsh Doss. They were married Dec 9, 1976 in Stillwater, OK. Cole embraced Linda’s children from her first marriage, Linda Joann Doss and Eric Duane Doss, as his own. Because of family needs they moved back to Shoal Valley Farm, Cameron, MO in March 1978, but Cole remained an OSU Cowboy for the rest of his life. Cole worked at Trans World Airlines as an airframe technologist mechanic until TWA was acquired by American Airlines. He retired from American Airlines when he was 62.
Cole was a ‘PUFL’, lifetime member of the Elmer Ellis American Legion Post 33, where he had held most of the official positions. He was also a member of 40 & 8 Vioture 1379, an honor group of legionnaires, where he held many positions. Cole was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church where he was a deacon, then an elder until his death. Cole was a proud member of the order of Freemasons and the National Rifle Association. Following his retirement and at the urging of church pastor Jesse Meyers, Cole began volunteering at the Community Food Pantry. He was soon a full-time staff member and then one of the board members. He was devoted to this evangelistic cause and his family gave their full support.
In May of 2014, Cole and Linda moved to Rio Grande Valley, Snow to Sun RV Resort,Weslaco,
TX.
Cole is survived by Linda Nixon, wife of the home. Children Krista Nixon King & her husband
Michael, of Amarillo, TX, Linda Joann Doss Atchity & her husband Gregory, Shawnee, KS, Eric
Duane Doss, Weslaco, TX. Grandchildren, Thomas Cole Atchity, Erica Jo Atchity, and Loren
Holland Benton. Great Grandchildren, Cody Case Holland, and Cassidy Benton. And sister Carolyn Kathleen Nixon Joyce.
Cole was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Cody Joseph Holland.
A graveside service will be held at Packard Cemetery in Cameron, MO at 2:00 pm on April 29th
with arrangements by Poland-Thompson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Cameron Food Pantry or a local food pantry of
