Esther, the oldest of seven children, was born in Abilene, Texas to the late Joe and Rebecca Garcia on July 15, 1955. She met the love of her life, Jesus Alfredo “Fred” Zuniga, while he was stationed at Dyess AFB. They married November 28, 1973 and together raised a son Abel, and three daughters, Angelica, Marisela, and Daphne. Theirs was a true love story as they were each other’s best friends. Over the last few years Esther and Freddy were enjoying their retirement together, moving to Harlingen, spending their time going to the beach and sitting outside enjoying each other’s company and listening to music. They frequently made trips to the Dallas area to spend time with children and grandchildren, to Abilene to see her siblings, and yearly visits to see extended family in Oregon.
Esther’s life revolved around her family and she was happiest when she was surrounded by loved ones. She enjoyed cooking and dancing and always had a smile on her face. Esther was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Esther was preceded in death by her daughter, Marisela Zuniga, as well as her parents, Joe and Rebecca Garcia, and brothers Tony Garcia and Albert Garcia.
Esther is survived by her husband, Fred, son Abel Zuniga, daughter Angelica Pierson (Abraham Pierson), and daughter Daphne Zuniga. Five granddaughters, Krista Zuniga-Navarro (Kevin Navarro), Abigail Pierson, Alyson Pierson, Jenna Pierson, and Aliyah Morales, and one grandson Billy Garretson. Three brothers, Joe Garcia, Johnny Garcia, and Gilbert Garcia and one sister, Estella Garcia. She also had several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
