

James L. Lucas, 96 years and 27 days of age died on Tuesday, February, 18th, 2025. James was born in Mississippi to James Ervin and Jessie Robertson Lucas on Monday, January 21, 1929. James was the 9th child born to this couple: Jessie died on March 24, 1929. James was only 2 months and 3 days old. HIs older sisters, Gladys and Pearl took turns from school to stay home and take care of the younger children and the household. James Ervin was a farmer that used horse and mule power to farm with. James, with his father's reluctant approval, joined the United States Army on May 22, 1946, a career that lasted 25 years. James worked as a Civil Servant employee at El Paso, TX until November 1, 1987. His retirement allowed many days of blissful fishing in the Elephant Butte Lake. James and his wife Mary Ann Clair moved to Rio Hondo, TX after their son, Steve, became a teacher at Rio Hondo School. Ann died in 1997, then James moved to Harlingen. James married Danna Danner in 2007 and lived in Harlingen until he died.
Surviving James are his son Stephen Lucas (Edna), wife Dana Lucas, and 2 stepsons Royce and Rodney Danner. James has many beloved nieces and nephews in Mississippi and Texas.
Graveside service for James will be held at Mont Meta Cemetery on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 2PM.
