John M. Schultz

1941-2016

La Feria Texas- Our loving husband, father, grandfather & uncle Sonny Laguna “El Goon de la Laguna” passed away on Nov 9, 2016 at home after a long illness with his wife at his bedside. John was born on November 22, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to John and Ann Schultz. He married Herlinda Garcia on Feb 11th, 1990. They have a son Eric and 2 wonderful grandsons Rafael & Pablo Schultz. John served in the U.S. Army & he was an American Legion Member in La Feria, TX for about 2 years. He was a graduate of USC in California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, He worked in the radio business in Colorado, KCBN in Los Angeles & Las Vegas & finally in Mercedes, Texas where he created K-TEX radio.

Spending time with family watching sports & reading was what made John happy. He loved communicating with people through the air waves & started people off with a smile on their face every morning. He spent his life always willing to serve others. His kindness, huge smile & big heart will be missed by all who knew him but mostly by his wife, son, & grandsons. He is survived by his wife Herlinda, son Erik, grandson Rafael & Pablo of Reno, Nevada. He is also survived by his siblings Carl and sister-in-law Elaine Schultz from Windfield, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents John Schultz and Ann Perks and by brother Stephen Schultz.

A viewing will be held at Heavenly Grace in La Feria Texas on Sunday, the 13th of November, 2016. Mass will be held the following day, Monday, the 14th of November at St Joan of Arc Church, 109 South Illinois St. Weslaco, TX 78596 at 2 pm.
