Maria Elisa Huerta was born and raised in Mercedes, Texas passed at the age of 86, on Monday January 11, 2021. She is survived by 8 children, 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Known to her friends and family as Julia, she lived a long joyful and blessed life. She listened to music in her home and tended to her many plants and flowers. She always made sure there was an abundance of tortillas, tamales, menudo, or anything she could give you whenever anyone dropped by to visit. Coffee was always brewing no matter what time of day you could always count on a nice hot cup of coffee with Julia.

Anyone who knew her knew that she loved to dance and was a beautiful well-dressed woman with a closet full of fancy dresses with matching shoes, and she always had to have her hair done. Her dresser had the sweetest smelling perfumes and jewelry for every occasion. Her favorite pass times were to play Mexican bingo for hours and she always had to win. She enjoyed going to the slot machines and gambling all night long. Every evening after watching her favorite novellas, Julia would settle into bed and unwind with crossword puzzles.

Maria Elisa Huerta will be missed by family and friends.

A special thanks to the staff at Weslaco Nursing and Rehab Center, who cared for her in her final days

I never will never forget the time my sister Maria (Waya) was doing a perm on her. It was time to rinse, but she was real into her novela and left it longer than she should have. By the time she decided to take it off her hair was so kinky. She laughed so hard cuz she said she looked like a "borga/lamb". She constantly had to put water to tame her hair 😂😂😂😂💖. You were ready but our hearts were not. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts. May you Rest in Peace and have eternal life.
