

Mary "Dee" Brown Rice, age 96, of Harlingen, Texas passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. She was born to Stella Harvey Brown and Sim Brown Sr. on August 18, 1927. She was born in the town of Victoria, TX and resided in Bloomington, TX. Mary eventually moved to Harlingen, TX in her early twenties. Mary had a nickname and was known to everyone as Dee.
Mary loved life and lived life to the fullest. Her many hobbies included making crafts and jewelry; cooking and baking; and listening to her favorite Blues artist - B.B. King. Most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family; she was a true hostess especially when her two favorite boxers were in the ring, which are her great-grandsons - JP and James. She was also a big rodeo fan; she would share stories about her brothers, nephews and grandsons competing in the shows. She was also a true fan of the Atlanta Braves and never missed a game. Most of all, she loved the Lord and was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed dearly.
Mary is survived by her sons Elvin Herron Sr. and Tommy Brown Sr.; her brother R. Lee Brown "Nitty" and her sister Vandy Lewis, seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and twenty-six great-great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by their father Sim Brown Sr. and their mother Stella Harvey Brown; their brother Henry Pete Brown; their brother Earvin Bowtie Brown; their brother Sim Brown Jr. "Skeet" and their brother Oylen Sonny Brown.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, November 3, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a burial at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559.
Serving as pallbearers are Elvin Herron Jr. , Juan Pedro De La Rosa III "JP", James Michael De La Rosa, Anthony Sosa, Jacob James Herron, Devon James Garcia, Casey Ray Brown and Dalton Garrett Brown.
