It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Reyes Zapata, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who went home to be with the Lord on February 4, 2025, at the age of 90. Reyes was born on January 6, 1935, and spent his life serving God, his family, and his community with unwavering dedication.
A man of faith, Reyes devoted over 40 years of his life as a deacon, faithfully serving our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His love for God was evident in everything he did, and his heart was a testament to the power of faith. His favorite scripture, Psalm 23, was a guiding light throughout his life, and he often shared its comfort with those around him.
Reyes also had a love for music and brought joy to all who enjoyed it with him. His music was a reflection of his spirit—joyful, soulful, and filled with grace.
As a lifelong carpenter, Reyes took pride in his work, using his hands to build and create with both skill and passion. His craftsmanship was a labor of love, and he left behind many pieces of his heart in the homes he helped build and repair over the years.
Reyes was a man who truly loved life. He embraced each day with enthusiasm, finding beauty in the small moments and joy in his family. He was the foundation of his family, and his legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Reyes is survived by his children: Agustin Zapata, Alicia Mancillas, Jorge Zapata (Rosa), Ernesto Zapata (Irene), Domingo Aguilar (Sylvia), and Rosalinda Lopez. He also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Reyes was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Herminia Zapata, his parents Francisco and Tomasa Zapata, and his siblings, Arnulfo Zapata and Benita Zapata.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, TX 78559. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a burial at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park.
Reyes Zapata will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of faith, love, and joy will continue to inspire all who were touched by his life. May he rest in peace, forever in the arms of the Lord he faithfully served.
