Born on October 14, 1964, in Weslaco, TX, Richie was the son of Ventura Garza-Perez Jr. and Guadalupe Salinas-Perez. He graduated from Donna High School in 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pan American University in 1988. He passionately worked as an insurance adjuster for the State of Texas and a supervisor for the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool.
Richie married Maria Emilia “Mily” Perez in 1994, raising two sons and enjoying a life full of adventure and love. He loved to do DIY projects—landscaping, woodworking, remodeling, and building around his beloved home. He loved watching sports, drinking beer, and spending time with his friends and family. He was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and spread joy to the members of his community in Harlingen. He always took the initiative to help those in need, often putting the needs of others before himself.
Richie is survived by his wife, Mily; his parents, Ventura Garza-Perez Jr. and Guadalupe Salinas-Perez; his children, Anthony Ricardo and Kevin Andrew; his siblings, Enedelia Perez-Edwards (her late husband, Kent), Mary Elaina Perez-Cortez (John), Alicia Perez-Garcia (Xavier), Ventura Perez III (Nancy), Ester Perez-Schlimper (Allen), and Estella Perez-Smith (Edward); his dogs, Rusty and Misty; and many, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Richie’s viewing will be held from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Friday, September 19 at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria, TX, with the rosary at 7:00 PM. A mass service in celebration of Richie’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 20 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harlingen, TX. Following the service, a graveside service will take place at Dignity Memorial Restlawn Memorial Park, where Richie will be laid to rest.
Richie’s kind spirit, generosity, and compassion touched everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
