Our beloved Father, Ruben Luna Sr. age 74, was born in San Benito, TX where he grew up in his younger years and then moved to Lyford, Texas with his family and completed his schooling at Lyford High School. Growing up our father was taught music by his father Jesus Villegas Luna and at a young age played in his father’s band Chuy Villegas y Los Happy Boys. As he got older he played with many conjunto bands Mexican American Band, Agapito Zuniga, Gilberto Perez y Sus Compadres, Lynda V. and the Boys, Los Angeles Del Sur, before starting his own band Los Carnales with his brother Rene Luna.
Our father was not a man of many words, but he was kind, honorable and humble and always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Our family get togethers were always memorable and always felt too short of a time. He shared his passion for music with his sons, Ruben and Rick Luna. Our father loved his family unconditionally and we adored him dearly.
He survived by his loving wife Belinda Curiel Luna, his ex-wife and mother to his children, Rosie Cantu, two daughters, Dora Benavides and husband Gil Benavides, Darlene Barrientos and her husband Ramiro Barrientos Jr., two sons Ruben Luna Jr and his wife Jaimie Luna, Richard Luna and his wife Adela Luna; six grandchildren, Lauren Luna, Richard Owen Luna, Enoch Luna, Noah Luna, Deveny Barrientos, Dayla Barrientos, and his stepsons Samuel Curiel, Matthew Curiel and Mark Curiel.
He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Villegas Luna, three sisters Leticia Chenkus and her husband Michael Chenkus, Alma Chavez and her husband Clyde Chavez, Lynda Nora Sanchez and her husband Mike Sanchez, three brothers, Rene Luna Sr. and wife Mandy Luna, Jesus Luna Jr. and his wife Michele Luna, Hemmanuel Luna and his wife Ruby Luna, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father Jesus Villegas Luna and recently his brother Roland Luna.
Dad, you left us too soon and so unexpectedly; but you left a legacy behind full of wonderful memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. We love you so much and even though we are lost at the fact that you are no longer with us, you will continue to live in our hearts forever. Please watch over each and everyone of us and give us the strength to keep moving forward as we remember the wonderful man, father and friend you were to all that loved you.
