Terry was a meteor—wild, brilliant, unforgettable, and ephemeral. If you caught even a brief glimpse of him racing through life, consider yourself lucky. We will remember the intensity with which he lived his life as we are left in his wake, darker now that his light has faded. He was a whirlwind of fun, trouble, and intelligence, and behind his mischievous grin was a heart of gold.
Terry was a dedicated cyclist who spent his life racing the sun and chasing the horizon. The open road was his true home and only constant. As we remember him, let us hold onto the image of him on his bike, and may his spirit inspire us to live for our passions and race toward our own horizons.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Mary Francis Slayden Tarver and Richard “Toby” Ray Tarver of San Benito, Texas, who adored him completely. He leaves behind his daughters Lori Garza Flores (Richie), Kerri Valencia (Kevin), Laura Hees-Garcia (Anibal), Kimberly Nichole Hees, grandchildren Andy (Cassandra), Alex (Kiersten), Melynn, Loren, Tyler, Alice, great-granddaughter Analissa, sister Christie Lee Tarver Banks, and nephews Chad Bennett, Brent Mills, and Justin Mills, as well as countless cousins and friends.
To honor Terry’s last wishes, no memorial service will be held. It would be a great honor to him if donations were made to Sunshine Haven in Olmito in lieu of flowers.
