Surrounded by his loved ones, Tony Orlando Flores was received into heaven on Tues., Nov. 29, 2016. This caring young man demonstrated his loving nature to the end in a gesture that could ultimately restore sight for two people he never met or inspire hope in up to eight patients struggling with the debilitating effects of glaucoma. His decision to become a registered organ donor illustrated his deep-seated compassionate side. It is a tenderness his family knew well. Born on Sept. 5, 1974, in San Benito, Texas, Tony was part-owner/manager of Zamora Distributing Company. He graduated from the University Preparatory High School in Harlingen in 1994 after attending La Feria schools where he established athletic prowess as a center in basketball, a tight end in football, and literally “running the gambit” in track and field by excelling in the 400 meter, mile relay, high jump, shot put, and discus. He is survived by parents Noelia and Orlando Flores of La Feria, sister Maria Olga Scurry of McAllen, fiancé Marissa Melendez, nephews Elias Foster (Jeremy) of Santa Rosa, California and Noah Scurry (Murphy) of McAllen, grandmother Eudelia Zamora of La Feria, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the country. He is preceded in death by his sister Jessica Flores Foster, along with grandparents Emilio Zamora of La Feria and Doroteo and Felicidad Flores of Monte Alto. Visitation is scheduled at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home in La Feria on Fri., Dec. 2, 3-9 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Dec. 3, 9 a.m., at Heavenly Grace. Internment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.
