Don was born on November 6, 1954, in San Luis Obispo, CA, to Beverly Faye Maden and Donovan Sanky Pike Sr. After graduating from San Luis Obispo High School in 1972, Don spent several years in Ohio County, Kentucky. He went on to study at Western Kentucky University from 1973 to 1978, where he was affectionately known as Felix. He earned his A&P (Airframe and Power Plant) license from Somerset School of Aviation Maintenance Technology from 1984 to 1986. At the time of his passing, he was splitting his time between Louisville, KY, and Cape Coral, FL.
Don was a jack of all trades and loved tinkering with tools, spending his time fixing cars, building homes, and cruising on any body of water. The first chapter of his career led him to UPS in Louisville, where he was an A&P mechanic. A motivated entrepreneur, in 1991 Don opened his general contracting business, Pinnacle Builders, where he built more than 200 homes in Oldham County, Kentucky. After a decade of recreational boating on Lake Cumberland, Don was thrilled to find his final career as a marine boat surveyor for First Class Marine Surveyor, where he could spend countless hours on the water "playing with boats."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donovan Pike Sr. and Beverly Maden Carter (Jack); his sister, Teri Donya Pike; and his niece, Tiffany Marie Mortensen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carrie Jean Pike; his mother, Polly Pike; his children, Cody (Rachel) Pike, Kendall (Erin) Pike, Kelly Caitlin Pike, Andrew Donovan Pike, and Wes (Samantha) Chapman; and his cherished grandchildren, Scarlett, Nora, Ayla, Hunter, Lilly, Leighton, Logan, Addilyn, Rhett, and forthcoming grandson Lucas.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a celebration of life to immediately follow at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home in LaGrange, KY, where family and friends will gather to honor Donovan's memory.
Donovan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His adventurous spirit, boisterous laugh, and dance moves brought joy to every gathering and will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
