
I worked with Alasdhair at Seven Oaks Direct in Memphis. I was one of his favorite project coordinators. I loved working with him. He was same age as my brother (7years older) who passed away while I was working there (1988) and I left 7oaks to take over his business operating a Chick-fil-A store in Memphis and have been with Cfa for these past 30 years since. 
I loved to watch him work and think and wrestle with issues (as he would say). He had boundless energy and drive rarely giving himself or his own well-being much regard.  He taught me intensity and relentless commitment to perfection.  I pray for you, his family, and am so sorry for your great loss. I just googled his name and, to my shock, discovered his death. I was happy to see pictures of him smiling and enjoying the wonderful company of your family and the awesome creation God has richly blessed us with!  I was not his contemporary but I was his friend and enjoyed every challenge that he so kindly presented to me!!
May God bless and comfort and provide your every need. I pray you will find a friend in the Person and Work of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (John 3:16).

Alasdhair would contact me when he needed documentation for a customer or when he had feedback for my team. He was always kind and respectful, even under pressure, which made us want to work all the harder to support him. I will miss this gentle, intelligent colleague. We will all miss him. My deepest sympathies to his family and many friends.



In my 15 years with Motive, Alasdhair was always around to give me the "sparring" partner I needed to test and validate ideas and approaches. His deep font of information about all angles of customer experience and customer care, helped us in various situations to create and validate proposals that were focused on creating perceived customer value. 

Next to his professional attitude and experience he was a guy with endless talents, stunning anecdotes, British humor, deeply expressed loved to his kids and Becky and passion for his friends and co-workers. While evolving the Motive startup into a market leading company he always created a momentum of a working family. This got deeply expressed when Alasdhair organized with Becky and Alex our memorial concert for our friend and co-worker Daniel Sommer this February in Austin.

I first met Alasdhair in Lisbon when he came to do an audit at Portugal Telecom contact center. He was accompanied by Elisabeth Beaunoir. I immediately felt an enormous respect for that man, who I hardly knew...
Years later, we became colleagues working together in the Motive team. I still remember that beautiful night on the hotel rooftop with the view of Acropolis in Athens, holding a glass of red wine and admiring that beautiful night. I had so much respect for him with his intellectual aurea. I was always so thoughtful and scared not to say out something stupid and lose his friendship! But we became great friends. He was my mentor, my advisor. In Budapest back in 2015,  he was going to give a presentation to our Motivation event. I had the opportunity to work with him on his presentation. They were the most fullfilling couple of hours in my professional life dealing with such gentleness and yet so much wisdom.

I always spoke highly of him wherever I went. He was my idol.
Every single person in the Motive team and the Bell Labs Consulting team loved him and respected. Our customers loved him. Everyone loved him.

When he got ill, I asked him if it was serious. He did not want to share and told me not to worry... Tears come to my eyes when I remember the last Monday of his life... he texted me on Skype (something we usually did very often)... I asked him how he was doing and he told me "I am doing OK"...there was silence and then I texted him if there was something he wanted to tell me or ask me. He said that he owed me a lot of requests related to work...And I joked to him, saying that I was overloading him with stuff,  but I never got an answer back. And I never got to say goodbye...[tears]

Alasdhair, RIP my dearest friend and colleague. I am heartsick and I will never forget you until the end of my days.

The question I was most asked about Alasdhair was always when can he come and help my customer?  Alasdhair built a world class reputation as the expert on Customer Experience.  Trusted to analyze how an organization worked and show them a better way which was not only more efficient, but also created a better experience for their end users.   

He was never shy to come into my office and explain to me how we could build better products and support our customers on their journey - willing to go wherever required and do whatever it took to solve a problem.   Along the way he became extraordinalrily well travelled with a global local knowledge and endless stories which made him a great traveling companion.

I learned a lot from Alasdhair.   He was a passionate and articulate teacher willing to share his knowledge.  We're going to miss the guy.

 had heard about Alasdhair, and was deeply shocked and sad at the news. I always enjoyed working with Alasdhair who consistently brought something new and innovative to any solutions that he was working on, and always maintained a great sense of humour. He had a tremendous amount of experience in our world and was always prepared to share it. On a personal level I always admired his enthusiasm, pride and support for his family, particularly his guitar playing rock god son!! And it was always interesting to hear about his education and experiences at the very progressive Dartington Hall School. I know that it made a huge impression on his life. I could never believe that with that name he wasn't a fellow Scotsman but he assured me that he was as English as he could be!! He is huge loss for you, both from the work perspective and more importantly for his friendship and personality. Hi Alex, I know we have not met but I have seen you play guitar as part of a festival in Austin so I thought I would share my memories of your wonderful father with you. I first met Alasdhair about 6 years ago when we had both travelled independently from the US on behalf of Alcatel-Lucent to Bombay, India. We spent a couple of weeks in India  it was one of those morning to late evening work gigs with drinks/dinner along the way. A little bit after that Alasdhair joined our consulting team and I was privileged to spend even more time with him in the US (New Jersey, Austin) and a few other exotic work related locations such as Budapest and Nice. Professionally, Alasdhair really impressed everyone (including our clients) with his knowledge of contact centers and customer experience. His very friendly and easy going approach and great presentation skills caused him to be in great demand internally within Nokia as well as by our customers. Even after he moved to another organization about a year ago, I continued to reach out to Alasdhair every 2-3 weeks to pick his brains and get advice on various topics. I also enjoyed spending time with Alasdhair socially  he was a lot of fun to hang out with which is how I got to know about you and your sister. He was so proud of you (and knew that I was fond of rock music) and sent me a link to a show that was being streamed out of Austin a couple of years ago which I watched (and your dedication to Alasdhair who was in the audience was very touching). Alasdhair did share how you were composing/recording music for various video games, and how you had connected with Stefanie (me: who is stefanie; Alasdhair: oh you know, lady gaga!). Alasdhair had a huge impact on me  professionally, socially and personally. I will cherish and miss him.

Alasdhair is still with me and always will be. And for so many lives he touched i know this is also true. During that experience and in the few times we've worked together since, what stood out for me was how Alasdhair treated people. He always treated people with respect. Alasdhair was not only an expert at his job, it was clear that he loved doing it. I spent many hours with him, working on how we could improve the way Telstra dealt with their customers. Alasdhair's comprehensive knowledge of the industry, how others dealt with the issues and how this could be applied for each customer, brought him immediate respect from Telstra and Nokia colleagues. In 2013 we asked Alasdhair, at quite short notice, to lead a workshop session with a large team of Telstra product managers. His presentation was not just entertaining, but inspired the audience (including some quite experienced managers) to think differently about how to structure products and market them to their customers. And product management wasn't even his day job. Despite all his knowledge and experience, his expert advice was always delivered constructively and with an engaging courtesy that encouraged it to be heard and adopted. On a more personal note, I have fond memories of one-to-one drinks and dinners catching up on life and reflecting on our industry. With a shared love of doing cool things in software, some of these conversations would have been entirely nerdy to an outsider. But in this and other matters we were soul mates, and I will miss him greatly.

Alasdhair and I worked on a lot of data related projects. It's true most of them are related with Telstra. However, in respective, I'd think it is also the use of mathematical language that binds us together. It goes without says that Alasdhair is very intelligent person. What strikes me most is his continuous pursuit of new technology and knowledge. It's not once that Alasdhair encourages me to use Microsoft 2016 to take advantage of the new software because I'm more like an old-school guy  if something works, just use it. When we worked on the Telstra agent performance analysis, Alasdhair brought in a brand new idea to try measurement using Mahalanobis distance (early 20th century technique), it startled me because I still quite enjoy using an old measurement (Chebyshev distance) from the 19th century. I remember I asked him if he is sure that he wants to apply this to people performance measurement. His answer is simple  why not, we need to find the outlier. Yes, finding the outlier is tricky, especially when you apply to people. This is also the reason it gave me a big shock when I heard of the sad news one day after my conference call with Alasdhair. What happened is quite abnormal. How come a person leaves us so quick?! Probably such case only happens with exceptional people  a statistical outlier.

I spent an evening with Alasdhair in Austin Texas where we were both attending a conference. While we'd talked on the phone about business things a few times, it was my first chance to really get to sit down with him. He was simply a very charming person who spoke with great pride about what his son was doing. Some years ago, I had the chance to work with him in Lisbon and I was impressed by his culture, his intelligence in analyzing situation and people, his capability to listen to people and his willingness to share his experience and knowledge. If transmission is the word that better defines our relationship, kindness is surely the one that shines on his name. I do not have any picture but I'll keep forever this memory of a smile, a discrete laugh and a lot of bienveillance (a French word I would have understood as he could speak so many languages including French). He loved Australia and last time we met in person, he took some time to share his best experience about Melbourne. I was really hoping I would see him again soon down under He was so proud of his family and I remember him with stars in his eyes on that night in Austin for Daniel's memorial, when Alex was playing and he could introduce his partner to his colleague. Just a few months ago. Your family is in my thoughts - so sad that he had to leave so early!

I had the opportunity, or I should say privilege to both work and travel with Alasdhair, I hold great memories of all the interesting topics he would discuss and share his thought-provoking views on. I remember and treasure them, coming from one of the most fascinating personalities I've known.

Someone I really looked up to both personally and professionally and from whom I learned so much, about many different things and places. It is well known how highly regarded he was in the telecommunications industry as a respected authority, yet I feel this was all surpassed by his genuine character and love for his family.... Thank you Alasdhair!



Alasdhair intimidated me.  He was so smart and I felt so dumb.  BUT.  I didn't take long to get beyond that.  I considered him a friend - for decades.  My condolences to Fiona, Alex, and his new bride.  RIP mon ami.



Alasdhair was a great inspiration and fountain of knowledge for our business, and always knew how to keep things in perspective.  We will miss him greatly as a colleague and friend.



How can I say what Alasdhair was for me? The word that comes to my mouth is refreshing, a breath of fresh air in this polluted professional world. Someone different, someone to learn from . Not only an expert, not only a nice person, not only a visionary. With him I felt being with a great person. We will miss him, I do miss him.



There are seldom people of Alasdhair's stature that are willing to jump in the proverbial trenches and do all he can to bring value to others. 

His wisdom, resilience to see things through and his out-side the box approach to thinking very quickly garnered my respect. 

Spending a few days working with him during his time in Townsville, Australia I was lucky enough to learn of his adventures abroad, his path to success and how proud he was of his son Alex's' band winning a prestigious award in LA at the time.

His presence is genuinely missed - my condolences to his family.

I met Alasdhair through an online humor group.  There, he distinguished himself as a quintessential Brit of fine wit and intelligence. I knew Alasdhair at Dartington Hall School and have been shocked at the loss of a friend.
He and his mother were part of the fabric, he was one of the few gifted pupils who actually understood what our Physics teacher (Jack Hampshire who worked with Rutherford cracking the Atom) was trying to pass on to us mere mortals, RIP Alasdhair.



Alasdhair was my half brother, we found each other within the last few years. Something that I will always be grateful for.! I managed to meet up with him a number of times whilst he was visiting in the U.K. I also got to meet Alex as well. Bless Alasdhair; I too was at Dartington but not until its its last years, having lived in England and traveled in my youth almost as much as he did for work. we found plenty to laugh about and play compare-and-contrast with all sorts of quips. I was a student at Dartington College of Arts when I bumped into Alasdhair's fellow pupils.  I was so impressed by them that I vowed to try and get a job at Dartington Hall School, which I managed to do for eleven years.  When I eventually met Alasdhair again a few years ago he reminded me of that time.  The uncanny thing was that he was still the perfect embodiment of everything the school tried to do.  Independent minded, open, caring, enthusiastic and fun.  Did the school make him or would he have always turned out the way he did. It doesn't matter, he was simply a great person to have known, however briefly.  We have all lost someone special and I send my fondest thoughts to his family.
