Mrs. Gail Carlene Denman (née Smith), of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the age of 80. She was surrounded by her devoted husband of 55 years and her two loving daughters.
Carlene was born to parents, Wilbur and Florence Smith, on September 28, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. She grew up as the youngest of two daughters and attended Lamar High School in Houston, Texas and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She married her sweetheart, Charles Denman in 1962 and they raised two daughters. Carlene was the second female stockbroker in Texas and also had a long career as a real estate broker. She was a recipient of the Elite 25 Real Estate Producers of Austin, President of the Capital Club and a member of many organizations including Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Lake Travis Republican Club, NRA and Austin Republican Women's Club. A lifelong Christian, she attended Austin Baptist Church and Lakeway Church. In addition to being a brilliant business woman, she was very involved in charitable organizations including Make-A-Wish, Wounded Warrior Project, The Gathering (Alzheimer's Volunteers) and Meals-On-Wheels. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, a world traveler, a talented ballroom dancer, an active volunteer and true friend to many. Her energetic and bubbly personality will live on forever in our hearts.
Carlene is survived by her husband, Charles Denman, her youngest daughter Yvonne Denman Johnson and husband, Chris Johnson, and eldest daughter Kimberly Denman Hundley and husband, Michael Hundley and their six children, Heather Yvonne Alvarez, Blythe Kathleen Dougherty, Ryan Charles Storrar, John-Paul Denman Storrar, Hannah Hundley and Cody Hundley. Other close surviving family members include her sister, Suzanne Schlindwein, niece, Pam Power Hill and husband, Larry Hill, and nephew, Alex Power. She is preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Wilbur and Florence Smith, and cherished pets, Scampi and Sweetie-Pie.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2:00pm at Lakeway Church in Lakeway, Texas.
