Carolyn left north Texas in 1950 to attend the University of Texas and had a lifetime love of Austin and Longhorn football. She majored in Home Economics and enjoyed all her friends at SRD dormitory. After graduating, she was offered a job teaching home economics at McAllen High School.
Carolyn was always artistic and enjoyed crafting so she put those skills to good use and created posters and decorations for school dances. One time, while creating these decorations, a friend dropped by with his buddy, Tom Weekley. They were married four months later on August 15, 1955 and had many adventures together until his passing in 2022.
They built their dream home in McAllen and raised their four daughters there. Their home was lively and often the hang out place for neighbor kids. Carolyn also sensed that God wanted her to be a foster parent so for five years they fostered through Hidalgo County CPS. Her kitchen table was often the scene for multiple children doing crafts, making Christmas cookies, or dying Easter eggs. During these years, she was also a Girl Scout leader at Victor Fields Elementary.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and felt that God had called her to teach adult Bible study, which she did for over fifty years. In 2004, she collected 3000 children's books and traveled to Malawi to help set up a library at an orphanage.
Carolyn was an avid reader even until the last few days of her life. She loved history and that led her to genealogy research, spending at least forty years researching multiple lines within her family and Tom's family. She joined a number of lineage societies including Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Republic of Texas, serving as regent of several of the societies. She was always glad to share her passion for history and gave many programs for various organizations.
Carolyn also loved sports and travel. She and Tom had many adventures as they traveled the world for track and field events. They attended every Summer Olympics from Mexico City 1968 to London 2012.
Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and Gigi and is greatly missed. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that she is with her Lord and Savior.
