6/2/84 - 3/23/13
Chris, the joy of our lives, was unexpectedly chosen to leave us on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Only God and Chris will ever know what truly happened. But we have been left with all our memories to comfort us, both those that were wonderful and also those that we will never share.
Chris was the child that we prayed for, but could never have. After 10 years of prayers, God realized that we were serious and he sent Christopher to complete our family. Surely, God has a great sense of humor because he sent us a little boy that was intelligent, loving, fun, high energy, stubborn and strong willed....all rolled into a beautiful package of baby boy love. The day you hold your newborn is a moment etched into your brain forever.
Chris was born in Denver on June 2, 1984. When he was 1, we started on a journey that took us to live and visit places all over the world. Chris was definitely touched by many cultures and became a student of the world. He grabbed each adventure and each opportunity that these different locations offered him with great interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
We made it to Lakeway in 1996 with a decision to bring him to Texas to settle down and finish school. This began a new chapter, new friends, great adventures and so many good times.
Chris was an accomplished acoustic guitarist and was always surrounded with music. He played guitar by ear and found that playing his guitar was his calming source when life became too difficult. He attacked everything in life that interested him....and with a great gusto. He didn't take small steps with anything, from his first steps until his last week of life.
Chris was a very intelligent, sensitive, polite, caring person whose natural charm pulled many of us into his aura. His friendly, impulsive, risk taking, fun loving, happy self was often at odds with the reflective, loving, quiet, deep thinking side of his personality, He was a complex, outgoing, joy seeking personality and was deeply loved by many. Chris was generous to a fault, kind and sharing to any in need, never met a stranger. He would share anything he had with you.
God must have needed just such a young man to return to Heaven for some great purpose. He left us much too early and we will never get to see the mature young man he could have become, nor realize the impact that he would have had on this world. While we will grieve his departure, we will rejoice that he is now safely at peace in the arms of God and all his earthly burdens and worries have been left behind. We believe without a doubt that Chris is safely tucked under God's robes and at total peace now.
He has left a hole in our hearts that we can never mend or describe.
Left to mourn him are his parents, Wilson and Pat Smith; his beloved Little Grandmother Thomas; his favorite Aunt Terry; his "go to guy" Uncle Mike; and many relatives; he also leaves 3 half-siblings and their families. His faithful dog and friend, Austin, was with him at his passing and keeps all their many adventures together a secret.
There will be a small, private family gathering to celebrate his life, and say "so long" for a while. He will be interred at the Lakeway Church Memorial Garden so we can continue to stop by and visit him.
Chris always told us he loved us and he was constantly reassured of our love for him. That loving bond and our memories will keep us connected until we are reunited in Heaven where we will share......the end of this story and our new story begins.
