Helen Virginia Daniel Lomasney passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, in Lakeway, Texas at the age of 97. She was born on October 27,1927 in Austin, the second of three children born to Edgar Raymond Daniel and Effie Magnolia Davis Daniel.
As a long-time resident of Austin, Helen graduated from Austin High School in 1945 and began her working career at Bergstrom Air Force Base, now ABIA, and was chosen as Miss Bergstrom that first year. She went on to a long time career in the government, including with the IRS in Austin, and Fort Sam Houston and Kelly AFB in San Antonio.
Over the years, she spent many weekends on the Guadalupe River with her sister, Martha, and good friends Pinky and Barbara who built homes on the river. The four of them traveled together for many years and enjoyed trips around the U.S., particularly to Colorado and New Mexico, and to many countries in Europe.
Her favorite pastime was working with her plants and flowers, and she was known for her secret visits to her children’s homes to “tidy up” their yards, with gardening tools always handy in the trunk of her car. That love of gardening and plants passed down to her children and grandchildren as well.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Nola Daniel, her sister, Martha Golda Daniel, and her brother, Carroll Ray Daniel. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Blanton and husband John; son Keith Lomasney and wife Bonnie; grandchildren Daniel Blanton, Michael Blanton, Andrew Blanton, Nicole Lomasney Ryder and husband Seth, Kevin Lomasney and wife Dani; great-grandchildren Daniel Blanton, Rex Ryder, Zoe Ryder, and James Lomasney. Helen is also survived by her sister-in law, Mary Daniel; nephew Jack Daniel and wife Liesl; niece Emily Kelley; and many grand- nieces and nephews.
"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
