James M. “Buck” Childers, Jr., age 67, of Austin, Texas, conceded his battle with cancer on Saturday, September 4, 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born May 29, 1943 in Austin, Texas to James M. and Dorothy Crooks Childers. He attended Southwest Texas State University studying to become a Veterinarian. Buck did not complete his degree before he was drafted into the Army. He served his country from 1967 to 1969 as an Army 1st Lt.
After completing his time with the Army, Buck returned to the Lake where he grew up. He worked in the Marina industry over 40 years as Manager, Consultant, and built, designed or managed – Lake Travis Lodges, Commander Point, Briarcliff Marina, Emerald Point, Northshore on Lake Travis, and Silverlake Marina on Lake Grapevine. He served on the board of Marinas Association of Texas for several years.
Buck loved nature, fishing, hunting, anything that involved being in the outdoors.
If someone even mentioned fishing or hunting he would say “what time are you leaving?” If no one was catching anything, he would come around and say “I know there’s one right there.” If there was a fish around, he would catch it.
