

Jim was born in Heavener, OK on August 19, 1936 and raised in Gladewater, TX. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and later in the U.S. Air Force, with wartime service in Korea and Vietnam. He had peacetime assignments in Germany, Turkey, Spain, and various bases in the U.S. While stationed in Germany, he married Lieselotte (Lilo) Fassbender. He retired from the Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant on Oct 31, 1982 in Fort Worth, TX, and subsequently relocated to Houston, TX where he joined the Drug Enforcement Administration. He later transferred to McAllen, TX where he served until his retirement in 1997. Upon retirement, he moved to Spicewood, TX where he resided among many dear friends until the time of his passing.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eula, his brothers Maryone and William, and wife Lilo. He is survived by his sisters Karel Wynn and Pat Lohaus, and brothers Stephen and Jerald Burns. Also mourning his loss are his daughter, Brigitte Penny, and sons Bruce, Brett, Brian, and Barry Burns, as well as daughters-in-law Lisa and Kelli. Jim was also blessed with many grandchildren (Ryan, Rachelle, Carmen, Jessica, Blake, Brandon, Bradley, Grey, Sierra, Nicholas and Jacob) and great-children, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will welcome friends for a celebration of Jim's life on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from noon to 3:00pm at Poodie's Roadhouse, 22308 Highway 71 West in Spicewood, TX.
Funeral services for Jim and Lilo will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the charity of your choice.
