Ali, Jeff and I were reminicsing recently about J.T.  From the earliest years as one of the tiniest, youngest ones on the Briar Club swim team, to long rides to the ranch with Sue, the dogs, and J.T. pinching the girls all the way there, to watching 4th of July fireworks from the back of the pickup in Utopia, to J.T.'s love of swimming and driving the mule all day at the ranch--J.T. was a delight  and a treasure to know as he made his journey from energetic, playful little boy to wise, thoughtful young man.  We will never forget J.T.'s wonderful spirit and we wish you all peace and comfort and the happiest of memories in the days ahead.  We are thinking of you all with love,

Words cannot fully express the absolute grief and immense sadness this tragic loss has left both of us with.  Our hearts go out to all of you. For many years, I was a camper with JT at Camp La Junta. He was always the friendly leader the younger guys looked up to. This past summer, I was lucky enough to hang out with JT again, this time as counselors. Though it had been a few years since we had seen each other, he greeted me and everyone else, camper or counselor, with the same friendly spirit I remembered from when we were young boys. I am blessed and lucky to have spent this past July with JT, and I am very sorry for your loss. JT, his friends, and his family are forever in my prayers.

I never know what to expect when I get a new class of students each year. Some years I leap for joy and others I bury my head in my hands! After only a few weeks into school during JT's sophomore year, I could already tell the strength of JT's character. I remember distinctly being impressed with the quality of his person: he was respectful, sweet, intelligent, considerate, and poised. He was a hard worker, and his grade reflected that work ethic. But even beyond his math abilities, he never failed to smile across a hallway, wave across a parking lot, or strike up a conversation on a walk to chapel. Those are the memories I treasure most of JT. I feel so privileged that I was able to know, teach, and love such a wonderful young man with such a beautiful spirit.

I have been so incredibly saddened all week with the news I got Thursday morning. JT was so funny and talented. We went to high school together and he was always smiling and laughing. He had a great sense of humor. I had recently moved to Los Angeles in November and did not know anyone. JT was a good friend and we hung out a few times when I really didn't know anyone in California. I remember one of the last things I said to him was "JT, you have so much charisma! You just have IT!" he smiled. I always knew he was destined for great things. Now he can watch down on all of us. I will keep your family in my prayers. He will be greatly missed.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. JT was a joy to teach in ETv and I am sad to think of a world without his warm spirit.



The world lost a wonderful young man with he passing of JT. I have known and work with a lot of young men and have only seen a few that had the personality and drive that JT possessed. My heart is broken over the news of JT's passing.  I knew him for three years at St. Francis, and my favorite memories are while teaching his 7th grade math class.  I have never known a more joyful child.  When I was having a bad day he would cheer me up by rounding the corner with a smile and "Wassup Mrs. L!"  He was so charming that one day I recall he somehow convinced me to postpone a quiz for the entire class.  JT was also an example and encouragement to others with his unrelenting positive attitude.  There aren't sufficient words to describe how special he was.  I simply adored him.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.  JT will never be forgotten.

JT will be missed, missed not for his incomparable sense of humor, genuine warm heartedness, or his ability and willingness to open his heart to others, but because of the feeling he conveyed to everybody that made them instantly and naturally feel that he was a truly good person.  The sense that we only get when we're around lifelong friends, family members, or others we love.  JT was the kind of person that you knew was special even if you didn't know him, and he made you feel the same way.

I went to Camp La Junta with JT for a number of years and admired his accomplishments and talent in pretty much every area. Sharing the same birthday, JT was exactly one year older than me and I always looked up to him as a role model. Even though we didn't know each other too well, he was super nice to me and it seemed like we had been friends all along. I have a great amount of respect for JT and know God has welcomed him with open arms. God bless your family in this difficult time. He will be truly missed.

I was heartbroken upon hearing the news.  Growing up on Doliver across the street from a friend like JT was truly special. I can remember the countless baseball games we had in the front yard and talking on our walkie-talkies from our rooms as teenagers. I also had the opportunity to play with him at Post Oak Little League.  He was a great ballplayer and teammate. I remember him always calling to â€˜warm upâ€™ before leaving for our games. Our friendship went on past high school, and JT always checked on me to see how things were going.  He is someone I will never forget. I will cherish the memories we shared forever. I had a lot of friends who went to St. Francis and through them is how I first became friends with JT. I played baseball with him at Post Oak and later on went to Episcopal High school with him as well. No one appreciated people or friendship quite like JT; it was pretty admirable. He was always laughing, joking, and smiling whenever I was around him. His talents in arts and video were also very impressive. It's a tragedy to see a young man like JT leave so soon, but God has him under his arms looking down on us. I wish your family the best in these hard times, and you all can rest assured knowing that everyone has their arms open for comfort. 



Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I know from conversations with Jeff what an amazing young man JT was and what a blessing he was to so many people.

Our family is so saddened by the loss of your beloved  JT. Our sons JD and John both played little league with him and remember him as a great kid who always had a smile for everyone. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lowe, Jeffery, Kristin, and Mr. Skilling,

I still canâ€™t believe the news I heard early Thursday morning, and I am deeply sorry.  He was one of the most outgoing and enthusiastic people Iâ€™ve ever known.  Looking back, I am truly glad that I was able to be a part of JTâ€™s life.  JT was my best and by far my oldest friend.  Since pre-k JT and I were close friends and I will never forget all of the fond memories I have of him.  From spending every summer together at camp, to attending to school with each other up until high school, I believe I will never have another friend quite as close and special as JT.  I am so glad that JT was able to spend one last summer at camp where he was in his element.  I can easily say that I would not be who I am today had I never known JT, and I will always hold a place in my heart for him.

Ever since my brother brought JT home as his first friend in Houston, I have gotten to know him as a bright, funny kid with a really (really) good taste in music. J.T.you were like an older brother to me. I remember at camp if i was having a hard time you would talk to me about it. As a little kid I always looked up to you out of all of Austin's friend's because you treated me equally even though i was much younger. You always had the best attitude toward everything, and seemed to know how to make somebody smile. I have much respect for you for the way you treated others. I remember a young beaming  JT skiing fast and nimble at Beaver Creek during a spring break vacation. So fast in fact, that night  he and my son Andrew fell asleep sitting up at the table while our families were waiting for dinner at Beano's Cabin . However, my best memories of JT were while I was volunteering at EHS. Weekly,  I saw him set himself apart by his sensitive, kind, and respectful behavior toward every student, parent, and faculty member.  He was truly a role model for others to follow. I keep remembering so many wonderful times with JT.
JT making a dog sled out of cardboard boxes and Bink crying to be put in his crate for a nap, JT coming down in the afternoon for a snack, JT looking for bugs in my backyard ( how different could it have been from yours?) JT opening my door, coming upstairs and jumping in bed in the morning joining Cletus and me. Remember all of the big digger machine videos he loved to watch? Mimi is probably holding him now. All of the McDaniels will miss JT so very much.  It seems like just yesterday that JT and Jack were getting the â€œrope huggingâ€ award at BC swim team.  JT blessed all of our lives, especially Jackâ€™s.  When small they were always moving at warp speed and always having a great time, usually barefoot regardless of the season.  Later they enjoyed hanging out more slowly but still having a great time.  We are so thankful that our boys had this past summer together at La Junta.  God bless you all. We were so saddened to hear about JT. What a sweet, kind young man! Thankfully last summer he was one of Rivers camp counselors at La Junta. When we went to pick him up, JT was the first precious smile that i recognized! Dear JT, your sweet smiling face greeted me every day in Spanish class. Your eyes always shone, excited for what I would teach that day and what fun game we would play. It was my first year teaching at St. Francis and I was so blessed to have been your teacher. A teacher never forgets one of her shining stars. You will always remain in my heart. 



Sue, Gary, Jeff,and Kristin,

I remeber JT fondly as an energetic and compassionate youngster.  I  know that he is now with God, and those left who loved him must now turn to God in their time of confusion, grief and sorrow.  I and my family will continue to pray for God's peace for each of you and that His peace comes to you as quickly as possible.



   I first met JT when he was in middle school. I was teaching a friend of his guitar lessons while he was at their house. He sat with us during the lesson.  He was so facinated with our electric guitars. There was little doubt that he would one day be playing too.
  A couple of years later I started teaching JT at his house in Tanglewood.  JT was musically talented and very creative.  He learned to play the guitar - drums - and piano. He loved to write songs. And before I knew it he was recording his own music. I use to love teaching JT!! HIs mother Sue Lowe is also one of the nicest, sweetest lady I have ever met. 
   Sue and Family - We are so sorry for your loss. Words can't even come close to describe the magnitude of your grief. May God give you strengh and guidance during this extremely difficult time.

I don't know what to say,but that my boys and I are truly heartbroken.  My family has known JT since he was 3..  Austin has always consider JT one of his oldest and best friends.  From our days at St. Francis to many summers at Camp LaJunta...in fact that is the reason we went to LaJunta,was cause of JT.  And boy was that the best decision I ever made!!  And then our days at EHS....but the best memories were the ones from LaJunta. I'm so thankful they all had this one last summer together.  JT was truly back in his element.  Patrick and Gordon always looked up to JT as an older brother....I have so many fond memories, I could go on forever.  I want you to know JT was very loved.  We will miss him terribly.  



Sue, as you know, he was always one of my favorites. He was always happy, polite, and smiling, but never as happy as he was going to the ranch. He will be sorely missed by so many. May God give you the strength you will need to get through the following days.

I will never forget JT as our Anvil Salesman in our 8th grade production of Music Man. He was always upbeat and did everythign ever asked of him. A good kid. I was better for having taught him.

Although I never met JT, I remember how his father would glow when he spoke of his children, which he often did.  I wish I could bear some of the pain that the family is feeling.  As a parent who lost a young child, I can only promise that waking up and going to sleep will become a little easier with passing time, and that the thoughts of your child will be with you in every moment.  May God Bless you and give you strength.



Please know that all of us who lived on Albans with the Skillings are heartbroken at your loss.  I kept up with all through the Dodds and know what fine young people the Skilling Children have become.   My prayers and thoughts are with with each of you  Fondly, Bette



Pictures of JT, Kristen and Jeffrey always warmed Jeff's otherwise-unadorned office.  JT's precious smile always made me smile.  While no words can express the sorrow I feel for Jeff and his family, I know heaven is a brighter place with JT there.  



Sue, my heart aches for you and Jeff and while I never met your children, I know you and Jeff. Sue, Gary, Kristin and Jeffrey - I have so many wonderful memories of JT, and they all make me smile.  His impish smile was so special, and he always had fun whether he was skiing (at warp speed), playing baseball, swimming at the Ranch, playing his guitar, a camper or counselor at Camp La Junta or petting Bink or Reagan.  I am so glad that the sun is shining today and the sky is blue - the type of Texas day JT would love. Tatie will be missed by all of us.  Muc love, Linda



Many good memories of JT... from skiing in Colorado, to roaming in Brazil, to driving go karts at the ranch, and more recently when he came to Athens GA to spend a weekend with me before he went to college.I will always remember the time spent together and will cherish the fond memories. All my love to your family.



As JT's 3rd grade teacher, he was always one of my favorite students!  His beaming smile, adorable sense of humor, precious demeanor, caring heart, positive role-model for his peers, was not only contagious but so sincere.  I still remember his precious cheeks that you could just squeeze and he had this "look" where he would flash his smile and as a teacher....how could I ever get mad at him!!!  Upon looking back at my book from his class, every picture of JT was either an incredible beaming smile, humorous photograph, and basically just all around happy joyous 8 year old little boy.  I can only imagine the pain your family is going through, but I do hope you find comfort knowing that God must have needed an angel that day.  I  know that he is beaming down upon us his great smile through rays of sunshine!!  Hugs to all of you--Jennifer Bates
