Austin, TX - Mrs. Kassandra (affectionately known as “Kas”) Constancia Thayer of Lago Vista, Texas, wife of Kenneth W Thayer II, entered into eternal peace on March 29, 2023 at her home, following a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, daughter of Edwin Wesley Marshall and Helen Agatha Leequi, Kas has spent the past 7 years in the Austin areas surrounding Lake Travis in the beautiful Texas hill country. Throughout the past 7 years, she was a member of Life Austin, founded by Pastor Randy Phillips (of whom she was also a loyal fan and music supporter. She loved the music of the christian music trio Phillips, Craig, & Dean with her favorite song being, “Tell Your Heart To Beat Again”).
Kas attended High School at Robinson High in Puerto Rico and attended college at Goucher College (Maryland) and Columbia Basin (Washington). She retired from working project controls within the nuclear energy sector prior to settling in the Austin area near her only son, Khristopher Thayer, his wife, Mary Ann Thayer, and her beloved grandchildren. Kas’ grandchildren were her world and she would spend as much time with them as she was able.
Prior to Texas, she resided with her husband in New York, Washington, and California. Upon moving to Texas, Kas would join the First Pentecostal Church congregation with Pastor Marvin Moore in Bay City. It was there that she credits the start of her walk with God and the foundational beginning of her faith that she would carry on until her final rest. After relocating to West Columbia, TX, Kas would then join Pastor Danny Johnson’s congregation at Apostolic Lighthouse. It was there that Kas would credit her spiritual growth as both maturing in faith and she established a lifelong friendship with Pastor Johnson and his wife, Barbara. Upon relocating to Austin, Kas became a member of Life Austin and credited her spiritual growth at that time as a time of enlightenment and acceptance. Her life revolved much around her varying church families and she viewed everyone that she met as more than friends but rather as brothers or sisters in Christ.
Aside from church related activities, Kas enjoyed the arts. She loved musicals, ballets, and a variety of art exhibits. She, herself, was an accomplished ballet dancer as a youth, performing with American actor, Dick Van Dyke and for the then President of Haiti, Francois Duvalier (aka: Papa Doc). In addition to the arts, Kas enjoyed the vast panoramic landscapes of the great outdoors. In her middle age, she loved sailing with her husband in and around the Texas gulf coast and into her later years, she loved yachting on Lake Travis with her son and his family then escaping the late summer heat by traveling to the mountains of New Mexico. She was forever a nomad because she believed home is where the heart is and her heart was always with her family. Towards the very end of her life, she would often repeat the words, “Stay in the present. Stay in His presence.”
Kassandra is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth W Thayer II, her son, Khristopher Thayer, her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Thayer, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, David Marshall, her sister, Tanya Leite, her Tante Glenda Van Bemmel, and cousins, Serena Van Bemmel, Michelle Van Bemmel, Michael Van Bemmel, Jay Van Bemmel, Freddy Arias, Francesca Arias, Arol Arias.
