Born on October 14, 1949, in Houston, Katie grew up with a vibrant spirit and a love for people. She was actively involved at Mirabeau B. Lamar High School, serving as the ROTC little sister and a proud member of Mirabeau, a social sorority. From an early age, Katie's natural warmth and enthusiasm made it easy for people to gravitate towards her—qualities that allowed her maintain lasting friendships throughout every season of her life.
She went on to attend Louisiana State University, where she earned a degree in French and developed a lifelong devotion to the LSU Tigers. Saturdays in the fall, you could often find her cheering on her team alongside her husband, Jack, and son-in-law, Ryan.
Katie began her professional journey as a property manager and later found her true calling in real estate, where her charisma, tenacity, and deep connection with people led to great success. Her commitment to community continued outside of work, through her active participation in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni Group and numerous charitable and social organizations across Houston and The Woodlands.
Although Katie had many passions in life, one that I am sure comes to mind for many was her commitment to health and wellness. She believed that caring for the body was a form of respect for life itself, and she lived that truth every day. Whether it was through her dedication to a healthy lifestyle, her love of movement — from long walks to swimming — or her endless curiosity about holistic healing, she inspired those around her to live more mindfully and intentionally. Her kitchen was a place of vibrant color and wholesome flavors, and her home echoed with the calm and balance she so valued. She didn’t just talk about wellness — she embodied it.
One of the most beautiful chapters of Katie’s life began later in adulthood, when she met the love of her life, Jack Thompson. Their relationship blossomed into a joyful partnership, full of faith, laughter, companionship, and adventure, and gave her the gift of two bonus children, Kate and Scott. Their love was a powerful reminder that life always has new joys to offer—and those who knew them could feel the happiness they brought to one another.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Anne Schleicher and Weldon A. Steinmann, as well as her brothers, Henry and Weldon Steinmann.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Thompson; her daughter, Kate Bent, son-in-law, Ryan Bent, and their daughter, Ellidy; and her son, Scott Thompson, daughter-in-law, Katie Thompson, and their two sons, Chase and Drew.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Katie’s many friends and caregivers for the love, support, and compassion shown to her in her final days.
A celebration of Katie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish in Lakeway (411 Ranch Rd 620 S, Lakeway, TX 78734). A reception with the family will immediately follow at the same location.
Katie will be laid to rest later that day at 3:30 p.m. at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery (14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660). All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Katie’s memory with a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or your local SPCA—causes that were close to her heart.
