Lois Therese Miner

August 22, 1931 - February 3, 2024

With heavy hearts but joyful spirits we announce the passing into eternity of Lois Miner, beloved wife, mother, nurse, and pillar of her community, on February 3. Lois was born the fourth of five children to William and Clara Bray on a farm in Farley, Iowa, grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Her humble beginnings shaped a remarkable life that touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Lois' journey with her beloved husband, Dick, spanned an incredible 71 years. Together, they raised a family, explored the world, created cherished memories and built a love that withstood the test of time. She will be deeply missed by her five children - Thom, Denise (Floyd), Lori, Carol (Frank), and MaryAnne (Jim). Known to her seven grandchildren as their beloved “Mia,” she leaves a legacy of nine great-grandchildren, extended family, and a community that was touched by her generosity and spirit.

A devout Catholic, Lois' faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She found solace and strength in daily prayer, dedicating time to the rosary, embodying the teachings of her faith in her everyday actions and teaching religious education to children for over 40 years. She was always actively involved in the Church community: starting a dinner club, volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul Society, singing in church choirs, working on fundraising galas, bible studies, nursing ministry, even helping to found the new parish of St. Thomas More and Emmaus Catholic Parish.

Lois' caring and compassionate nature extended beyond her immediate family to touch the lives of others – both in her beloved nursing profession for over 50 years and her volunteer contributions. Across the decades, Lois was actively involved in the communities in which she lived, some being: Catholic Nurses’ Association in Wisconsin, Cub Scouting in New York, ecumenical bible study and Girl Scouts in Connecticut, PTA in Massachusetts, Health Clinic volunteer in Texas.

The consummate hosts, Dick and Lois welcomed friends and family into their home with warmth and grace, creating a space where love and laughter flourished and the simple pleasure of sipping a well-made martini a mainstay. Lois’ legacy of hospitality lives on through the memories of the countless gatherings, with stories shared and bonds strengthened.

With all this, Lois also enjoyed making music on piano and guitar, reading and love of the written word, bowling, tennis, taking her family on hikes and picnics, boating,as well as being in faithful attendance at their grandchildren’s sporting events.

After raising their children, Dick and Lois enjoyed travel with over 100 “destination pins” inserted on their wall map, immersing themselves in the diverse landscapes and making friendships that spanned the globe. In her later years with Dick, Lois took residence at Arbor Terrace, where she continued to radiate warmth and joy.

As we mourn the loss of Lois, let us remember the joy she brought into our lives, the love she shared, and the lasting impact she had on the world around her. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration for all who knew and loved her.

A visitation for Lois will be held Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734. The Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM. A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM with reception to follow at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing Rd, Lakeway, TX 78734. A graveside service will occur Friday, February 9, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery & Mausoleum, 14501 North Interstate Hwy, Austin, TX 78753.
