Michael Jay Lichty, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023 in Lakeway, Texas. He was born to Richard Jay Lichty and Ruth Hargis Lichty on May 3, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
After graduating from the University of Kansas in 1969, Mike entered law school at KU where he met Glenna “Kitty” Kelly. Mike and Kitty were married in 1971. Mike received his J.D Law degree in 1972 and then relocated to Kansas City, Missouri to work for a law firm. He then went on to have a successful career spanning 39 years with Trans World Airlines, starting in 1975 and lasting until his retirement in 2014. During his tenure, Mike served as Deputy General Counsel, and ultimately acted as President and Chief Executive of TWA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth Lichty, and his sister Lynn Gonzales. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kitty Lichty, his brother Richard Lichty, along with his son Jason Lichty and wife Jenny Lichty of Dallas, Texas, his daughter Erin Williams and husband Brian Williams of Comanche, Texas. He was a cherished grandfather to his beloved grandchildren Emily Lichty, Cara Lichty, Aiden Williams, Finley Williams, and Piper Williams.
Mike Lichty will be remembered for his kind and thoughtful heart, witty humor, and dedication to his family, as well as his passion for golf and unwavering support for the Kansas Jayhawks. Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Mike Lichty. He will forever be in our hearts and memories.
