Born on April 3, 1969, in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico, Rick moved to Austin at the age of three, a city he would grow to deeply love and call home. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Government and went on to serve the State of Texas with pride and dedication for 35 years before recently retiring.
Rick was known for his love of fishing, his loyalty to Longhorn and Texans football, and his unwavering devotion to family. He found joy in the simple things—casting a line, sharing stories, and cheering on his teams every fall weekend.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Santa Herrera; his three children, Ricardo “Ricky” Herrera, Angelica Alexandria Herrera, and Adan Herrera; and his three grandchildren, Maeson Macdonald, Brielle Herrera, and Roman Herrera. He also leaves behind four brothers: Jose Herrera, Rosalio “Rose” Herrera, Pedro “Pete” Herrera Jr, and Rodrigo “Rod” Herrera.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on June 14, 2025 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Lake Travis, followed by a burial at Hudson Bend Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
Our family is deeply grateful for your continued thoughts, prayers, and support during this time as we remember and honor the life of our father.
