

Richard “Rick” Byron Sutton of Austin, Texas, Manager at IBM and beloved husband and father, went to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus at the age of 62 on Monday July 7, 2025 with his wife by his side at a hospital from complications with his Glioblastoma.
Rick was born on July 12, 1962 in Santa Maria, California to his loving parents Larry & Donna Sutton. He grew up in Clear Lake, Texas and earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He continued his career in technology in Austin, Texas, primarily at IBM, where he was awarded several patents. He also grew in his Christian faith throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing delicious food and listening to music. His hobbies included weightlifting, gaming, playing the saxophone, and scuba diving. He loved animals, especially family dog Coco, who was his faithful companion during his cancer journey. Family and friends knew him for his love of joking around and using Snapchat filters to entertain everyone.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Maria “Lisa” Sutton; his son, Zachary Alexander Sutton; stepchildren Jazmin Noelle Berres and William Antonio Rushing; his brother, Stewart Sutton, and Stewart's wife, Miki, and their daughters, Kyara and Remi; mother-in-law Maria Antonieta Sarabia; as well as his uncles, Byron Sutton and Rick Warren, along with their spouses and children.
Rick generously donated his body to science. A celebration of his life will be held on July 25, 2025, at noon at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 411 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation (glioblastomafoundation.org).
