Rosamond Faith Mullender of Lakeway, TX, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 99. She was born on July 29,1926, in Columbus, MS, where she grew up as the youngest child in a loving family. Her father, Henry, was a railroad engineer and her mother, Faith, was a homemaker who was active in their community and church. Rosamond remained close throughout life with her sisters, Lucille and Gladys, and her brother, Henry, and half brother, Floyd. At the age of 18, she traveled with her parents to live briefly in San Francisco, where her father was treated for leukemia and subsequently died. With the wise support of her mother and others in Columbus, she worked through this early loss and went on to college.
Rosamond graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and began her career teaching high school business education in Columbus. Later, she studied at Oklahoma State University, where she met the love of her life, Larry Mullender. After each completed their masters degrees, they married, and lived briefly in Philadelphia before moving to Dallas. They eventually settled in Houston, TX, where they raised their family. Rosamond devoted herself to her home and church, a longtime member of Richmond Plaza Baptist Church in Bellaire, TX. She served there for many years in the church nursery, finding great joy in caring for babies and serving young families. At the age of 50, she started a part-time job that she held for many years with the Bureau of Labor Statistics. She enjoyed traveling around Houston and its outskirts, collecting data for the Cost of Living Index.
After raising their family in Houston, Rosamond and Larry moved to San Antonio, where Larry retired from a career in insurance. There, they served faithfully at University Baptist Church and enjoyed the loving community of other couples, families, and neighbors for more than two decades. After the death of her husband, Rosamond moved to Lakeway, TX, near her daughter, Faith. Fiercely independent, she lived on her own until the age of 95. She was active in The Lakeway Church and community volunteer opportunities, including The Lakeway Thrift Store. She enjoyed spending time with dear friends and family, and seeing her grandchildren grow to adulthood.
In her final years, Rosamond received compassionate care from Brookdale Lohman’s Assisted Living, Arbor Terrace Memory Care, and in the last months of her life, Suncrest Hospice. Her family is profoundly grateful for the kindness, dignity, joy, and love offered by her caregivers, especially those who walked with her through the last season of her life.
Rosamond will be remembered for her independent, adventurous, and engaging spirit; her lifelong devotion to family and church; and the strong faith that guided her nearly century-long life. She is survived by her children, Mike (Julie) Mullender of Fort Worth, Faith (Andy) Hicks of Lakeway; grandchildren, Lauren Mullender, Jenna Mullender, John Mullender, Drew (Shannon) Hicks, Josh (Brittany) Hicks, Luke Hicks, Jake (Madeline) Hausmann-Hicks; great-grandchildren, Bethany (Spencer) Holmes, Henry Hicks; and great-great-grandchildren, Charlie Hicks and Truman Holmes.
A celebration of life will be held at The Lakeway Church on Monday, December 29th at 2:00pm. Internment will follow on December 30th at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lake Travis Crisis Ministries in her honor.
