June 7, 1952 – November 25, 2012
Sue was born in Hollywood, Florida and grew up in Glens Falls, New York. She was the second child and first daughter of George C. Collyer & Muriel (Matott). In 1970 she graduated from Glens Falls High School and went on obtain degrees in Business and Police Science from Adirondack Community College, Queensbury, NY. In 1979, the family moved to Houston, TX and finally found the perfect home in beautiful Lakeway (Austin), Texas. Sue worked for the City of Lakeway for 25 years as the Director of Planning & Development. She worked hard for all the residents and builders in the area to make Lakeway the city it is today.
Sue was an original and literally wore many hats (most of them Santa-inspired, smile-inducing and good-time promoting)! She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a MEMA (that's "Grandma" for Northern folks), an aunt, a sister-in-law, sometimes an "outlaw" (*wink*wink), aka: Stu Potter, and a HECKUVA FRIEND! She was loved by many, feared by people that didn't build to code, and will be missed every day - especially on Christmas. THAT was her holiday – she did it up right! She taught her daughters how to keep Christmas in their hearts the year 'round and maybe even a few hundred or so people, too.
On a personal note, we want people to know how wonderful she was to her children and grandchildren. Her affection and love was felt deeply by them and our only hope is that she knew how deeply we loved and appreciated her.
Sue is predeceased by: Jonathan H. Potter – husband; George C. Collyer – father; Muriel Powers – mother; Norman F. Powers, Sr. – stepfather; Kenneth J. Collyer, Sr. – brother; Evelyn C. Kelleher – sister; Norman F. (Jay) Powers, Jr. – stepbrother; Carlton L. Sherwood - brother-in-law.
Sue is survived by brokenhearted loved ones: daughter Kimberly Mogilevsky and Andre' of FL, daughter Jennifer Potter and Liz of FL, granddaughters Heleyna Calderin, Natalya and Etienne Mogilvesky; brother Steven Collyer and his wife, Pamela, of Glens Falls, NY; sister Sally Sherwood of Lakeway, TX; sister Mary Sicard of Queensbury, NY, stepsister Marlene Powers of Lake Luzerne, NY, sisters-in-law, Therese Collyer of Queensbury, NY and Helen Powers of Lake Luzerne, NY; special nephew Douglas G.N. Collyer, Esq. and his fiancée Brandi White of Plattsburgh, NY; special niece Elizabeth C. Gilles and her husband Nathanial, and their children Lucas and Madeline of Glens Falls, NY; first cousin Carla Brind of Colonie, NY; many great friends – TX & NY.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing in Lakeway. Interment of Sue's cremains will be in the family plot in Lake Luzerne, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mayberry Foundation, 2917 Brittany Point Lane, Austin, Texas 78738 and Lake Travis Community Library, c/o Ginger Gober, 2300 Spur #100, Lakeway, Texas 78734.
