Walter Ray Tallent

He was born at Methodist Central Hospital, in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, to Erin Shirden Tallent and Doris Baker Wight on March 9, 1949. He grew up there and attended Adamson High School. He played on the Tennis Team, had a Rock 'n Roll Band, where they played for school functions and made lasting forever friends.

Wally, as he was called by friends and family, attended El Centro Junior College. He studied Computer Sciences and started his career in Banking. He married Lorraine Kay Wilson in 1969 increasing his family with 2 sons, Walter, Jr. and Jason Tallent.

Wally worked in several companies developing software for Banks and Savings and Loans, eventually ending up with Hogan Systems'. He was their first hire and his talents were greatly utilized as he was with them until he retired in 1997. Wally was responsible for the programs that allow people to use ATM's, interest being calculated from date of deposit to date of withdrawal, debit cards and other ways of banking that make life easier. His software is used in banks worldwide.

In 2001, Wally was first diagnosed with AML, and received an adult stem cell transplant, that gave him 13 beautiful years more with his loving wife and family. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and humanitarian. Wally worked hard with the National Marrow Donor Program, The Leukemia Foundation, a local blood bank, and was a spokesperson for these organizations to help people learn about blood cancers.

He was an avid golfer, starting at the age of 43, playing at least four times a week. He was Senior Club Champion for 2013 and was disappointed he could not defend his title in this year's tournament.

He was very much involved with his 3 grandchildren and will be loved and missed forever.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27th at Emmaus Catholic Church, 1718 Lohmans Crossing in Lakeway.
