Walter Richard Beddeo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and educator, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at 7:07 P.M. at the age of 88. Born in Denver, Colorado to the late Walter Rex and Opal Marie Beddeo, Walt carried his love for his hometown throughout his life.
Walt graduated from East High School in Denver in 1954. Before pursuing his degree, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He then attended the University of Denver, where he excelled both academically and on the football field. A gifted athlete, Walt received numerous offers to play professionally in the American Football League but chose instead to dedicate his life to education and coaching.
His teaching career began in McFarland, California, and in 1962, he joined the faculty at Palmdale High School. He dedicated his career to PHS, retiring in June 2002. During his tenure, Walt coached numerous Golden League Championship teams in swimming and wrestling, leaving a lasting impact on generations of student-athletes. His motto, "He would not let any student-athlete fail," reflected his deep belief in their potential. He instilled in them the conviction that they could accomplish anything they set their mind to.
While attending the University of Denver, Walt met the love of his life, Karen. They married on August 1960, and together raised two children: Walter Richardson and Gina Marie. A devoted family man, Walt cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to the University of Nebraska football team. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Walt found joy in fixing things and supporting his family in any way he could.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Rex and Opal Marie Beddeo, and his son, Walter Richardson Beddeo. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen S. Beddeo of Palmdale; daughter, Gina and her husband, Scott of Deatsville, Alabama; daughter-in-law, Coleen Beddeo of Santa Clarita; grandchildren Lauren Beddeo, Walter Ryan Beddeo, and Jessika Smith; sister-in-law, Joyce and her husband, Bill Camin; and nephew, Patrick and his wife, Letitia.
