With great sorrow we announce the passing of our husband, brother, father, grandpa and friend Alex Joseph De La Zerda who went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was seventy-one years old.
Alex was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where he attended Central Catholic High School. He continued his education at the University of Texas, Austin where he studied psychology. After graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and later transferred to the Navy where he became a Navy pilot. After his military career, he worked as a real estate agent in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His military career took him all over the world, but regardless of his location Texas was always home.
Alex loved movies, Mexican food, Texas BBQ, Big Red, UT Athletics, listening to Oldies & Tejano music, his maltese Tristan and making people laugh. His hobbies included target shooting and being a black belt in Shōrin-ryū karate. He supported conservative ideas and was a devout Christian.
He cherished his friendships including lifelong friends Freddy, Mike, Stan & Jan, George, and Pastor Bob (among many others in Texas, Virginia, and Nevada). Alex was a family man and his grandchildren meant everything to him. Alex and Linda even retired in Nevada so they could be full time grandparents to Auggie and AJ.
He is survived by his beloved wife Linda who he was married to for almost fifty years, his sister Mary Helen Rodriguez, brother George Garcia, son Nathan De La Zerda, son in law Jason Bolick, daughter Nicole Bolick, niece Julie Brown, nephews George Garcia II and Anthony Garcia, and his grandchildren August and Alistair (AJ).
Alex will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in a celebration ceremony of his life. In lieu of flowers Alex requested that a donation be made in his honor to his alma mater Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas. A tribute gift can be made online at www.cchs-satx.org/give/ or by check, made to Central Catholic High School, ATTN: Rebecca David, 1403 N. St. Mary's Street, San Antonio, TX 78215.
