Areti Schlutter was a kind, loving, humble, wise and encouraging person. She loved exploring the world, enjoyed traveling and capturing what she saw with photographs. She loved her husband, children, grand-children and the rest of her extended family and friends. She was very proud of her heritage. Whenever she received guests while in Greece, they could always count on trips to interesting places - famous and obscure. To everyone around her, she seemed to be eternally happy, and she willingly shared that joy with anyone whose life she touched. For Areti, bringing out the best in any situation was as easy as offering a smile, a witty remark or the twinkle of an eye. And with just those simple gestures, she could evoke the most pleasant of emotions. Areti really mastered the art of living and had great fun in doing so.
Her parents were Stelios and Argiro. Areti was raised in Kifissia, Greece - just north of Athens. Even as a child, Areti had the ability to lift the spirits of all those around her. Areti was raised by hard working parents who operated the restaurant Lord Byron situated on the main square of Kifissia. It was from Stelios and Argiro that she learned how to make the many wonderful Greek dishes that she would in turn make for her family and friends. She learned the values of hard work from her parents. Areti was raised with three siblings. She had two younger brothers, Jimmy and Johnny, and one younger sister, Stavroula.

Areti never actually encountered a stranger in her dealings with people. Areti utilized her interest in others as a great way to connect with them. While growing up, some of her best friends were Libby, Agathie, Elisaveth and Theoni. Later in life, she became friends with Mika, Jeromy, Mimi, Mary, Loy, Popi, Simon, Renyou, Debbie, Steve and many many many more. Areti loved sharing life and having her home filled with people she knew.

Because of her personality, her humor, and her ability to get along with everyone, Areti's service was greatly valued by the organizations to which she belonged. Throughout her later years, Areti was an active member of the Miata Club, Retired Officers Wives Club, Arts & Crafts Club, and the Square Dance Club.
A generous person who often wore her heart on her sleeve, Areti often found herself involved in activities she deemed important. She was charitable, kind and giving, qualities that made her a natural volunteer. Outspoken in her beliefs, yet tactful in her dealings with others, Areti was a member of several community groups, serving on committees for the American Red Cross.
