Arnold D. "Duke" Slater, of Las Vegas, passed away May 22, 2013, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1954, in Indianapolis. Duke served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1979 and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Local IBEW 357. Duke was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Hazel Slater; infant children, Steven Duane and Faye Barbara; and brother-in-law, Dennis J. Madaras. He is survived by his wife, of 30 years, Janice; daughter, Sarah of Las Vegas; son, Joseph Day of Crestview, Fla.; in-laws, John and Margaret Madaras of Las Vegas; daughter-in-law, Suzi Day of Tucson, Ariz.; grandsons, Tommy and Nick of Tucson, Jesse, U.S. Army, Korea; and numerous good friends and relatives. Duke will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.
