Ava passed away on February 5, 2022, at Summerlin Hospital from a congenital heart condition in the arms of her parents. She is survived by her parents, Amy & Edward, and her older brother Gabriel. She is also survived by her grandparents, Randy & Stephanie Weigel of Laramie, Wyoming & her Abuelita, Beatriz Velazquez Izquierdo of El Monte, CA. Ava is loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, medical personnel, teachers, extraordinary friends, and her dog, Echo.
Ava was a precocious, lively, spirited 11 year old who touched people in remarkable ways. She endured countless medical procedures including 3 open heart surgeries with a resilience many adults could not handle. She experienced much joy in the opportunities and experiences she had in this life. She was a student at Kathy L. Batterman Elementary School from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. As a result of needing to receive homebound services for her education, she attended NEAT Services at the Collaboration Center at the Ranch which she LOVED! Ava became quite the sports fanatic and found ways to participate in baseball, soccer, sled hockey, and swimming just to name a few. She loved playing baseball on the Miracle League Mets team for the past 11 seasons. Ava joined the Vegas Golden Chariots sled hockey team last year. Thanks to her Dad, she became quite the Raiders fan! She shared a special bond with a player who transferred to the Denver Broncos and quickly became a Broncos fan, which created fun moments in the Urrea household.
Ava’s biggest hero and the person she wanted to be the most like was her big brother, Gabriel. Their relationship had some ups and downs like many sibling relationships do but the love and compassion they had for each other is undeniable.
Ava was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
