Bernice Siwek, age 93, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, in Las Vegas after a long illness. She was born on January 12, 1919, in Poland. She spent many years in Chicago, IL, Rochester, NY and, for the past fourteen years, in Las Vegas, NV. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, and is survived by daughters, Linda (Robert McKay) of Webster, NY, and Grazyna ("Gina") Cufari and husband, Philip, of Las Vegas, NV. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Beata (Tim) Beam and Philip Palka, both of Webster, NY. She also leaves behind many dear friends and family in Las Vegas, Chicago, Rochester, NY and Poland. Her nephew, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, was the close friend, confidante and personal secretary of Pope John Paul II, so Bernice was blessed to visit with the Pope on a number of occasions. A memorial mass for Bernice will be celebrated at 5:00 PM Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church. Internment will take place in Rabka-Zdroj, Poland, where Bernice will rest next to her husband.
