Edna Bobbye Lou Jones was the only child of Effie Henderson Hurd Jones & Benjamin Franklin Jones. She was born three months premature no bigger than a coke cola bottle and it was feared she would not survive. Family members took turns feeding her with a medicine dropper. Her mother was so scared to touch her she carried her around on a pillow. Thanks to her devoted family and the Lord's grace she survived to live a full life.
After the death of her father at age eight, Bobbye-Lou and her mother Effie moved west by way of Pittsburg, Chicago and a few other cities finally settling down in Las Vegas, Nv. by age 11. She attended 5th Street Elementary School and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1951. She was known to love to dance and dance she did whenever she heard music.
She began working at the Sands Hotel at 20 years of age and was there for 11 years as a Powder Room Attendant. She worked as a secretary/office manager before returning to the casino in 1973. She retired from the Tropicana Hotel after 26 years of service in 1999.
September of 1962 she married Elroy Boxx. They were blessed with two daughters Ellerie and Cesilye. Her priority was to provide her daughters with all they needed physically and spiritually to be productive adults. When the responsibility came upon her to provide for her children on her own, she rose to the challenge with all the strength and faith she had.
She joined Saint James Apostolic Catholic Church with her mother, Effie Conway in 1952. Bobbye Lou was very dedicated to her Beloved St. James. She served on the Women's Auxiliary, Eucharistic Minister, sold fireworks, was an honorary choir member, and assisted anyway she could within the church community. Her dearest and closest friends “sisters” were met at St. James. One of her greatest joys in life was attending church every Sunday. She could be witnessed every Sunday clapping her hands, tapping her foot, singing and praising her Lord.
Bobbye is survived by daughters Ellerie Boxx (Las Vegas), Cesilye Boxx (Midland Texas). Grandchildren Cydney and Curtis Boxx, many cousins and close friends.
