A funeral service will occur Friday, April 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131. A committal service will occur Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131.
Brenda will be laid to rest in Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. , Las Vegas, Nevada 89131; Garden of Mountain View .
“Anything is possible.” That is what Brenda Colleen Garcia believed about life. She was a creative woman, who seemed to be able to find a solution for any difficulty confronting her. She had faith in her ability to find those solutions. She possessed an inquisitive, confident, and rational nature matched with a versatile and agile mind. Brenda was a person who believed that she could achieve whatever she set out to do.
Her parents were Lowell and Kathleen Slater. Brenda was raised in Las Vegas, NV.
Brenda was raised with two older siblings. Shanna Sims Oldest & Brother Kevin L. Slater being the middle.
She graduated from Rancho High School in 1980, This is also where she met her future husband
Brenda was socially resourceful, an expressive person who was willing to try new things. These qualities drew a lively circle of friends around her. Brenda's humor and curiosity were contagious for those around her. Julie Jaramillo was her best friend of over 40 years.
On October 16th, 1982 Brenda exchanged wedding vows with Robert Garcia at Little Church Of The West of Las Vegas, NV. Brenda was adept at devising original and creative ways to enhance and improve the marriage partnership. Brenda was an entertaining conversationalist who was quick to respond to her spouse’s needs. She was a vibrant personality and she enjoyed verbally sparring with Bobby. In fact, those who knew her often remarked that Brenda loved to argue for argument’s sake. She was very perceptive in recognizing others’ feelings, especially regarding Bobby's.
Brenda and Bobby were blessed with two children, Brooks Slater, Heather Garcia. They were also blessed with Six Grandchildren, Gage, Ava, Ryan, Cash, Josh, Vanessa. Someone who was quick to laugh, Brenda found it easy to spend lots of time with her children, but she was never overbearing or guilty of pushing herself on them.
Her primary occupation was a Paralegal. She worked for many local attorneys, until she became a grandmother and decided to stay home so she could help take care of her grandchildren because she did not want them put into daycare.
Her favorite hobbies included, Playing softball, going hunting, fishing, riding horses and camping with her family.
Recreational sports included Softball, and Wallyball. Brenda was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite events whenever she got the opportunity. Tops on her list was watching The Pittsburgh Steelers with her Hubby.
She was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints since she was 8 years old.
Having the opportunity to visit and explore a new place always intrigued Brenda. Traveling and going away on vacations offered yet another opportunity for Brenda to expand her ever-growing inventory of knowledge. Memorial Day Weekend trips to Eagle Valley, or Trips to Rainbow Canyon to pick Apples.
Brenda was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of Brenda's favorites was Springer Spaniel Sir Mac Of Winchester (Mac). They were best friends for 15 years. Some of her other Pets included Her Horse Blaze, and her and Bobby's Labrador Retriever's Katie, Gunner, Gage. and Goose.
Brenda passed away on March 24, 2022 at Nathan Adelson Hospice. She is survived by her Husband Robert Garcia, Son Brooks (Katie) Slater, Heather (Robert) Garcia, Mother Kathleen Slater, Sister Shanna Sims, Six grandchildren Gage Robert Slater, Ava Colleen Hegeduis, Ryan Jacob Marquez, Cash Slater, Joshua James Marquez and Vanessa Maria Marquez. Preceded in Death by Her Brother Kevin Slater, Father Lowell Slater, Grandparents Erwin and Lorene Robinson. Services will be held at Palm Northwest Mortuary & Cemetery 6701 N Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
During her lifetime, nothing appeared impossible to Brenda. She met the words “it can’t be done” with the enthusiastic challenge of a “wanna bet” attitude. Brenda was able to recognize the possibilities a new idea held, even when those around her could not. For Brenda, the traditional way of doing things fell short of her expectations, especially if there were original and untested methods for handling a challenge. For Brenda Colleen Garcia, the fun of living her life could be found in the challenge.
