After graduation from North Division High, Class of 1949, and enrollment in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, and forever became a proud Marine. “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” While serving as an Embassy Guard in Madrid, Spain, as a part of the elite “Madrid Marines”, he married the former Pilar Rodriquez, with whom he had three daughters. He was proud of his service as audit head at USAID-Quito, Ecuador, and Supervisory Systems Accountant, at the Panama Canal Commission. After his divorce in 1974, he married his wife of 40 years, Selma (nee Wong) Umnuss. They relocated to Las Vegas, NV, after his retirement from the Panama Canal Commission, January 1992, where they continued their loved of travel and he traded his love of scuba diving and the sea for the desert activity of video poker. He served on the HOA boards of Sun City Summerlin and Desert Shores Racquet Club, and was a director of the Leathernecks Club, Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dr. Patricia Kubis. Left to mourn are his wife, Selma, daughters, Pilar, Monique, and Maria Luisa, and grand-daughters, Pilar Albert and Mia Conover, (his five California girls); brother, Roger Umnuss, Memphis, TN; sister, Darcy Hearn, Laguna Woods, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews and good friends.
