July 23, 1942 – August 17, 2025
Clifford Benjamin Bursett passed away peacefully at his wife’s home in Clinton, Utah, surrounded by loved ones, on August 17, 2025, at 6:10 PM, at the age of 83.
Clifford was born on July 23, 1942, in Murray, Utah, to Albert Edward Rufus Butt and Leona Butt, and was raised in Copperton, Utah. He attended Bingham High School, where he was a lead scorer on the Bingham High basketball team, helping secure the school’s first State Championship in 1960—a memorable highlight in his life and a proud moment for the entire Copperton community.
After high school, Clifford was drafted into the United States Army, where he honorably served for two years. From his earliest days, he lived with purpose and dedication. His faith was the foundation of his life. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he lived with integrity and compassion, offering service and leadership to his community. His faith guided his relationships, his work, and his outlook on life.
On July 16, 1966, Clifford was sealed to Margaret Sue Coombs of Burbank, California, in the Los Angeles Temple. They settled in Camarillo, California, where they raised their three children and resided for 36 years. Clifford built a home filled with love, faith, and devotion. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—camping under the stars, traveling the world, playing guitar, hosting events as master of ceremonies, competing in card games, shooting hoops, and most of all, spending time with those he loved. Professionally, he dedicated his career to the field of civil engineering, serving the Federal Government until his retirement in 2004.
In retirement, Clifford and Margaret moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they looked forward to traveling the country in a new truck and fifth-wheel trailer. Sadly, those plans were cut short when Margaret passed away on April 29, 2009, after 43 years of devoted marriage.
Clifford’s journey of love continued when he was later sealed to Susan Thayer Duncan of Orem, Utah, in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple in October of 2010. They shared ten wonderful years together—filled with travel, adventure, and the joy of uniting their families. Susan passed away on January 8, 2020, preceding Clifford in death.
He later found lasting companionship with his beloved wife, Shirley Jean Morrison of Clinton, Utah, who survives him today. Though their time together was shorter, their love was strong. They shared many adventures, treasured moments with family, and lovingly cared for one another. Shirley was faithfully by his side when Clifford passed away.
Clifford was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family. He was a role model to his children, grandchildren, and to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Morrison Bursett; his daughter, Marlene (Kevin) Minster; his sons, Darrel Bursett and Greg (Ellen) Bursett; and his brother and sister-in-law, Vivian and Doris Butt.
He is also survived by his stepchildren: Jared (Kami) Christensen, Michael (Katie) Shepherd, Susan (Jerry) Floyd, Obe (Jeanene) Lowry, Jodie (deceased) (Matt) Clark, Jeremy (Jennifer) Lowry, and Audra (Patrick) Weldon. In addition, Clifford is blessed with 34 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws, all of whom he loved deeply and who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, two sisters, and four brothers.
Clifford will forever be remembered as a man of faith, a devoted husband and father, and a loving friend. His influence, example, and legacy will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know him.
Memorial services will be held on September 6, 2025 at the LDS Church, 5160 W Lone Mountain Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89130.
Friends and family are invited to gather beginning at 10:00 AM to sign the guest book, record a memory, and visit with one another. The formal service will begin promptly at 10:30 AM and conclude at 11:30 AM.
