

David McClure Rice passed away on October 5, 2024 in Las Vegas surrounded by family. He was born in Fitchburg, MA on October 21, 1932 to Herman Rice and Doris McClure Rice. Dave graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1950, served in the United States Army, and graduated from the New England School of Accounting.
In 1960, Dave embarked on a new chapter in Las Vegas, where his versatility and entrepreneurial spirit flourished. His career path was diverse spanning roles from waiter and bartender to bar manager, bar owner, and realtor. Dave's gregarious nature and business acumen found expression in numerous ventures, including the Cinnabar, The Rice Paddy, The Hard Hat Bar and Grill, Pecos Saloon, and Boodles.
Dave's zest for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. An avid skier, he carved through slopes alongside cherished friends and family. His love for golf saw him traversing countless fairways with his buddies. In his later years, Dave found joy in the simple pleasures of life –walking his dog around the neighborhood, savoring a glass of wine while engrossed in a challenging jigsaw puzzle or sharing the excitement of a game with loved ones.
While Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Herman Jr. and William, his legacy lives on through a tapestry of relationships he nurtured throughout his life. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Karen, and their daughters, Kirsti and Tiffany. Dave's influence extends to the next generations, including his granddaughters Alexa Rice and Alyssa O'Callaghan (Sean), great-grandchildren Ivy and Sully O'Callaghan, and James Allen (father Josh and brother Gavin). Those who knew Dave will forever cherish his playful nature, honesty, and infectious sense of humor. A celebration of Dave's life will be held at a future date.
