Douglas was born on October 31, 1940 and was a life-long resident of Las Vegas. He was fourth generation of his family to live in Clark County. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, his ancestors being among the first members of the LDS Church. Douglas was proud of his pioneer heritage. His ancestors crossed the plains with Mormon handcart companies, survived many hardships along the way, and were among the first to settle in Utah and Southern Nevada in the 1840’s and 1850’s.
Douglas was also proud of the history of Las Vegas and watched it grow from a small community of 5,000 in the 1940’s to what it is today. His father, Lloyd Lowe was chief architect and engineer of the Thunderbird Hotel, the fifth hotel and resort to be built on the famous Las Vegas Strip.
Douglas worked for many years as a warehouseman for Sierra Construction Corp. and then worked for Deseret Industries, until his retirement at age 65. Douglas was skilled at woodworking and designed and built many fine furniture pieces. He considered himself a furniture maker.
He was preceded by his parents, Lula and Lloyd Lowe and sister Myrna Lowe. Survivors include his brother Nolan (Ann) Lowe of Central, Utah, sister: Patricia (Eugene) Badame of Las Vegas Nev. and Sybil Conlan of Reno, Nev.; brother Donald (Victoria) Lowe of Fernley, Nev. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at Bunkerville Cemetery in Bunkerville, Nevada. Douglas will be buried next to his parents and sister.
