Edith M HYDE: Edie was a bright and bubbly person who woke up with a smile on her face, looking forward to each new day. She was born in Lincoln County, Arkansas on Aprill 11, 1934 just minutes after her twin sister, Ethel. She was the daughter of Richard M. and Arrie Lee Bohannan. She was raised in Pine Bluff Arkansas with her six siblings: older brother, R. M., her twin sister, Ethel and four younger siblings: Charles, Carrie, Mary Nell and Joann.
Edie had a number of interests in high school, including singing, dancing, playing softball and tennis. She was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and was a cheerleader. She was voted "Most Friendly" in her class. She graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1953. Both Edie and Ethel, excelled in Home EC.
There was one thing that all of Edie's friends knew and will still remember, and that is that she was a talker. She could pretty much talk to anybody about anything. This quality is one of the primary reasons that Edie was such a popular person throughout her life. Edie was comfortable playing the role of “host” for just about any occasion. When Edie made friends, she made true and lasting friendships. While growing up, some of her best friends were Jeniece, Ramona, Maggie Beth and Vestal Ann, all of whom she stayed friends with to this day.
Following high school, Edie and Ethel moved to California and lived with an aunt and uncle while attending college. In 1955, she graduated from Beauty College. While in school, she met the love of her life, Gordon Carl "Doug" Douglas. On August 28, 1955, Edie married Doug at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church of Redondo Beach, California.
Harmony was important to Edie and she made every effort to maintain it with her family. Edie was blessed with three children, twin daughters, Sjana and Geana and son, Gordon. They were also blessed with five grandchildren: Jonathan, Brian, Valerie, Olivia, and Connor; two great-grandchildren: Jonathon and Bella.
Edie and Doug were members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church for 30 years. During that time, they were involved with a Christian couples group called The Voyagers, which was a highlight of their married and family life. They also enjoyed ballroom and squaredancing, camping and flying the family airplane every chance they got.
Edie lost Doug to cancer on June 3, 1985. After a season of mourning, Edie met the man who would sweep her off of her feet and carry her down the aisle once again. Edie and Earl Warren Hyde were married on October 3, 1987 in Redondo Beach, California. During their marriage, they resided in Torrance, California, Charleston, Arkansas, and finally settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where they enjoyed hosting cherished friends and family. She and Earl also relished traveling and making new friends. Edie was excited to enlarge her family by welcoming Earl's children, Lisa and Randy (Stephanie) and grandchildren as her own.
In 2007, Edie suffered the loss of her husband, Earl. Sadly, in 2012, one of Edie's twin daughters, Sjana, passed away.
Edie spent countless hours playing Bunco and cards with some of the many friends she has made in Las Vegas. She loved shopping with her sister, Mary Nell Smith, who moved to Las Vegas with her husband, James, in 2015. Edie will be best remembered for her exuberance for life and love for her family.
Edie passed away at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 28, 2018 after a lengthy struggle with a heart malady. Services will be held at Palm Mortuary - Cheyenne. She will be laid to rest in Green Hills Cemetery in San Pedro, California at an undetermined future date.
Edie is survived by her children, Geana Douglas Stuart, Gordon D. Douglas (Shari Lee), grandchildren, Jonathon Farr, Brian Stuart, Valerie Stuart, Olivia Zecchini and Connor Douglas, great granchildren, Jonathan "L.J.", and Jesebella "Bella" Farr. She is also survived by her twin sister, Ethel, brother, Charles (Mary), sister, Mary Nell (James) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
