Forsake me not, oh Lord my God
When the night is dark and cold.
Let not the enemies take me
To feast upon my soul.
I am the lowly lamb that strayed
From thy protective staff.
The stealthy wolf awaits me
Lurking, blocking every path.
He'd fetch me to his blackened lair
And feast eternally.
And, I no peace could ever find
Where there no mercy is.
Temptation gently wooed me
Whilst to snare another lamb.
Impassioned by her charm
Blind to the danger she had planned.
I followed her to a darkened place
I thought was good to be.
But, as I walked that crooked path
The enemy followed me.
I heard the gnashing, menacing growl
Behind each fallen bough.
And, I grew weary, weak and faint
Oh savior, save me now!
Send forth thy trusty spear.
Thrust it sure to meet its mark.
And, let thy peace surround me
As it pierces the demon heart!
Then lift me, oh so gently
Once again, dear Savior mine.
For this I knew, above my fears
That you would come in time.
I feel, once more, at peace
As I behold thy gentle face.
No longer threatened by the wild
Significance of this place.
Nestled lovingly, against thy breast
Oh rescuer of my soul.
I've found my place...but... by thy grace again... amongst the fold.
